IPS has just launched Community Hive, which they hope will help drive traffic to your online communities. It will be a free service, with mobile apps coming soon, and it will also work with XenForo, Squarespace and WordPress. IPS forums will be able to activate the new service from their ACP in September.

We are creating a new free-to-use service to help independent communities reach new audiences and re-engage existing members.

Community Hive delivers updates from your favourite communities and helps you explore new ones by bringing all the communities you follow into a single feed with optional email updates.

IPS believes this will help send traffic to your community in the following ways:
  • Content is only shown as a snippet so visitors must go to your community to read the full content.
  • There are algorithms in place to learn what is popular and move it up your feed.
  • Following your community on Community Hive does this via sending a visitor to your community first. This allows you the opportunity to capture the visitor to become a member on your community. If they are not ready to join, they can also follow anonymously. If they join later, they can link up their existing Community Hive account.
  • Visitors cannot interact with your content on Community Hive. They have to go to your site.

I say it's one of the best ideas to even come up with that help with the client community that will be available to the IPS adminCP 😉 helps to open up the traffic to people. Still in Beta but can't wait for Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yeah.

This is a very cool concept! I can't wait for it to roll out for Woltlab and Simple Machines! I'd never thought I would see the day that IPS would make a site that works with their competitors, or any software company do this for that matter.

It's good to read positive comments about this initiative. There are too many forum owners with 'competing forum syndrome' which doesn't make much sense when the audience for forums is diminishing.

I believe this has the potential to increase engagement for all participating forums. I just hope it doesn't start off with good intentions and end up being another Tapatalk.

I hope it will turn out wonderful, but we'll just have to wait and see. It's IPS after all, so they'll probably find a way to complicate things and then shut the service down without any proper heads-up.

They are looking for Wordpress and Xenforo testers if you're interested.

Taken your time, I'm not even on it 😛
Haha, yeah we're working with their support to fix a few issues, but hopefully by the end of this week we should have at least something.

I really like the idea and being part of it, but.... No one can explain to me how they plan to get users to stick with Community Hive as their "social media" of sorts or why users will even be in the platform. I feel like I'm missing how it will help get users beyond maybe extra SEO back links.

The email digests are reminders with updated content that might move you to visit a forum you're following.

Unfortunately, we were never able to get FP added, and I haven’t been able to get DH added either. Seems like Invision abandoned this project for the time being. Just been seeing a lot of upset folks complaining about a lack of support on Community Hive’s forum these last few weeks.

Hopefully they pick this project back up in 2024.

They have indeed abandoned it for the time being. They have a few developers outside IPS working on it, but with the Holidays everyone has become so unresponsive on it. Lots of issues not being addressed accordingly. I assume this will be picked up again halfway January. But they could've at least warned their audience. Poor management on that part.
