IRC

What's your opinion about it? I think it might be a good way for users to chat. These days you don't need clients like mIRC, but instead you can place an app on your webpage where users can connect to your channel directly, making it seem just like any chatroom.

I love the idea of IRC, but i've never been an active user. Really the first time I had the chance to play around with it was when I switched to Linux, and I did have some great fun with it for awhile.

The biggest issue is that MSN, AIM, Gtalk, and YIM are taking over. People usually only use 1, and that 1 usually isn't IRC anymore :\

That's true. A lot of people still use IRC, and I think it might work for some websites. If you use something like Mibbit anyone can connect without any hassle, making it very easy.

I don't know a lot about IRC either, but I'm playing around with it on my computer.

They are good but most users wont use them as MSN and other services offer a lot more feature-user friendly goodness. I used to use IRC for a game I played to help moderate the game server, but I have no use for it now.

Yeah but for websites like this it's good because we can all chat in "real time" without having to add everyone manually on msn 😛.

That's true. And these days it's very easy for anyone to join, and it would probably benefit any website.

Making channels is also really easy.

IRC is pretty cool, if you have a forum such as an RP, while you are hanging around waiting for someone else to post, it is more fun than leaving the site and coming back every few minutes

I use ChatZilla.. mIRC takes too long to startup
