Just saw it last night! Thought some parts were awesome and some not so much.

What did you think? 🙂

I ask that if you want to say something about the movie then put it in spoiler tags and don't ruin it for the next person.

*SPOILER*
I really liked all the references to the Avengers. Definitely foreshadowing Avengers 2.

I haven't seen it yet, but it is defiantly on my list of things to see. (though I don't know when I will be going to theaters anytime soon)

I found it to be good, however,
a story line on terrorists (which appear to be Middle Eastern people in some frames) isn't exactly imaginative. I know they want to re-introduce the Mandarin, but maybe it's because I've seen a few too many films with terrorists in them, which made it slightly cliche in this day and age 😛

I agree with you on that part. It seemed very cliche that the terrorists were from the Middle-East. Probably just trying to tie it into modern culture you know?

IM3 was the last movie I saw, and well... Not something exactly spectacular but it's not bad either.

I think the problem with this series is that sometimes things aren't explained properly. Maybe they don't need to be explained, but still... I haven't watched the second movie. But I remember that the first movie made me feel like the ending was too abrupt. With this third movie I feel like I don't really know the antagonist party. What exactly is the thing injected to make those men undead? Is the purpose simply to make an army to retake the leadership or whatever it is? Since I'm not sure about the reference to Mandarin too... Then the ending, and the bonus ending after the credit. That bold statement. XD

I still love the action and humor (Robert Downey Jr. is awesome haha~) but yeah.

I thought Iron Man 3 was good. I don't know if it is better than 1 and 2 but I most certainly liked it.

What did everyone else think about the fact that there was more Tony Stark in this than Iron Man?

I personally don't mind. Since we get to see more of the human side of the superhero. I might be wrong since I didn't watch the 2nd one, but the amount of self-story and action as Iron Man was balanced well enough.

You know I felt some things in the movie could be explained better. I agree with all your statements there.

I think we learned quite a bit more about Stark from this one-on-one stuff the writers gave us. Loved it personally!

Massive Spoilers contained within... Proceed at own caution
I think most things were explained fairly well.

Regarding what everyone was injected with...
If I recall right, Maya Hansen calls it Extremis at the start of that scene where she's explaining it to Tony.
She also goes into more depth about how it actually works... (by rewriting the human "repair" centre of the brain to make upgrades.)

As for the people, they aren't dead. They were just injured in various attacks or wars. So when they got injected with Extremis they regenerated. Though as a side effect of the version of extremis they were injected with being unfinished and unstable... not everyone can survive the process. Some of them explode violently.
Because they didn't want their work compromised, they disguised these (highly illegal) human experiments as terrorist bombings.

So that's when they created/revealed the character of The Mandarin (who was "leading" their group, the 10 rings). He was a public figure designed to take credit for the "bombings" (which were just failed Extremis experiments). This allowed the real villain to continue to experiment with Extremis without having to worry about the authorities chasing him down.

Their purpose for creating Extremis was to cure Dr. Aldritch's disabilities, which they did, but the Extremis virus was unstable and he wanted to fix that (which they tried to do by injecting Pepper Potts with it so Tony would fix Extremis for them. But that didn't exactly work...)

Once Extremis was fixed, his plan was to kill the President (in a "terror attack" by the Mandarin) and then use the completed Extremis as a bargaining chip to control the Vice President (because his daughter was missing a leg and he wanted Extremis for her) who would become president after the death of the current president.

I loved this film. Much better than Iron Man 1 + 2, IMO.

I thought the many Iron Man suits, controlled remotely by JARVIS fighting the enemy was awesome. 😛 I also loved the references to the Avengers. 🙂

I loved it but.

They broke so many rules, it wasnt the same Iron Man.
I thought he never runs out of energy? Also I thought Iron Man is not Iron Man without the suite, No Suite No Iron Man. Dont get me wrong I thought the film was brilliant, but it broke the rules of its own world.

Dunno how the comics work, but it is possible.

The Arc Reactor can run out of energy... But it just takes a really long time or a huge use of energy.
They stated in the first movie that the prototype version Tony built in a cave could run his heart for 50 life times... Or something really big for 15 minutes. He since improved the Arc Reactor in his chest at least three times. Once to the newer version in IM1, once to a version with removable palladium cores (sometime after IM1 and before IM2) and then to the current version (IM2) with the new element. Each version having even more power than before. Which makes sense since he's had time to figure out how to improve it. And he'd want to get the most power he could out of it to power his armour for longer.

And for the movies, they already used the low power plot in the first movie when Tony fought Iron Monger... So they wouldn't want to use it again so soon.

In the comics, running out of power was a key plot device for many of the early comics. He'd be forced to do battle at low power and then make desperate struggles to reach a power source to recharge.

As for the suit... This movie is centred around the idea of what makes a hero. Is the hero the flesh and blood Tony or Tony in the armour?

Though it's worth noting that the Comics and Movie universes are somewhat different and they have different rules/ideas in them. Just compare the Extremis arc in the comics and in the movie. Two rather different approaches. Then there is the Mandarin. (Even in the comics they don't always play him the same way.)

Thank you for the explanation, VirusZero! That sure clear things up a bit. I must've been a bit slow not to realize that, haha~

Although I'm still not sure how he can take out that thing from his chest and stays alive without it, I thought that device keeps his heart beating, lol. No problem there, though.

No worries. (I just figured that it might have been longer since you saw the movie until when you started discussing it. It's incredibly easy to forget some details if time's passed.)

At the end of Iron Man 3 though Tony has fixed the extremis virus and removed the flaw where people exploded. He then uses Extremis on himself to enable him to heal. This allowed surgeons to operate and remove the shrapnel in his chest. So at the end of the movie he no longer needs the arc reactor in his chest to keep the shrapnel out of his heart. So he removes the arc reactor too. And that's why he can go without it then.

Thanks again, VirusZero! Then again, I think what you said wasn't covered in the movie? How could I miss such point. -__- Was it in the comic?
