Im hoping to get a reply to this thread, Unlike my older thread..

Since The new house ive moved into does not currently have a NBN (National Broadband Network)

Im just wondering how much is 10GB??
I might be buying a poket WiFi with 10Gb included??

Will this be enough to manage a online forum/site, some music downloading and Facebook?

Thanks,

Mr.Shy(Spudster)

Uploading a forum software like phpBB is a few MBs since forum software mostly contain text files, and scripts, and a few images. I think most forum MODs are just a few KB-MB in size since they are just text and image files as well.

http://www.opera.com/ has a web browser with a Turbo mode which compresses websites to use less bandwidth. There is also a mobile version called Opera Mini which compresses websites and images to use less bandwidth.

I think music files are just 5-10MB each for a typical 5 minute MP3 file, so you need to download a lot of music files to use up all the bandwidth.

YouTube, and other video and music streaming sites will use up a lot of bandwidth.

There are Bandwidth Meter tools which you can use to monitor how much bandwidth you use like http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemeter/

10GB will not be much when browsing internet and downloading.

Actually, 10 MP3 files will be around 50 MB - 80 MB which leaves 9.9 GB of usage. If all you are going to do is browse after that, then sure, 10 GB will be enough.

I have broadband and my allowance is 10 GB per month. I donload files which makes up 6 GB of that and I am left with 4 GB to browse with and I still have a few MB's left over at the end of the month.

But having said that, if you stream or play games such as COD of MOH online, then yes, your bandwidth will be used up much quicker.

I have read somewhere opn the internet (Think it was Yahoo Answers) that a 3-4 minute youtube video takes only 35 MB of data which isnt much.

I also know someone that has played facebook games 4 hrs a day and they only used only about 40-60 MB that day.

I Don,t know about uploading youtube videos,
how much will that take up?

You should be fine, I have been using a mobile broadband dongle to manage and create websites for a year now.

There is a 240P video quality mode by clicking the settings/gears icon on the YT player for YouTube videos which lets people with slower connections or on mobile broadband to watch YouTube videos, but 240P video looks more blurry.

How much data usuage/Gb do you get per month?

forgot to mention, I use to have 500GB when i was living at the old house.. (when there was a NBN)

That,s why im iffy about it 😕

See what I can do 1Gb = 1000 Mb so 10GB (10,00MB) seems like a fair bit for one person..

It won't be. Even for browsing, because some FB users upload HD photos, and it wouldn't last for like half a month, But it all depends on how you use it. I say give it a month for trial.

Facebook is actually free with the plan ive choosen 😉

Since i also got a tablet with them ive got 4GB per month on 3G plus the 10GB on WiFi..

Tablets/3DS Should,nt use much and i won,t do much besides website management on the pc.

It depends how much GB Shady had.

I guess it depends on how much you will be browsing the internet and watching videos and such. I guess give it a trail run and see how fast you use it up on a day to day basis.

Mr. Shy,

As someone who works and sells phones and mobile hotspots, the plan in which you chose should be fine. I have a 5Gb plan on my Verizon Wireless phone and I have yet even surpass 2.5 Gb and I am always on Pandora Radio and Youtube. Getting on the Internet wont really hurt your data allowance as Internet connection for just browsing wont really take up that much data. What hurts is watching a lot of Youtube, Netflix, listening to hours and hours of Pandora and iHeartradio. You should be fine!

I Don,t watch that match YouTube videos, I use to upload them but I might stop that for now.

I have just looked at my data usage within this whole week ive only used 935MB out of 4GB thats with the Samsung Tablet Apps, 4 YouTube videos fully downloaded and downloading this Forum and a few other sites..

As far as i know I should be fine As @DoubleJump says I should give it a months trial and see what happens.

-- November 15th, 2012, 10:22 am --

So is it safe to open a forum or site that will be active (my goals with this project is endless so im hoping its enough?

It depends on what you want to install on it will depend how much memory you will need.

The site will be active once I get things running and the software written.

All i want to install is a few forum mods and images, logos and banners and some youtube and music(Not alot need to limit myself with this)

Thats what i will be downloading

It all comes down to what you plan to use that 10GB for and how much of something you plan to use of that 10GB. If you plan to have it for gaming then no but for small music files then yes.

So it is good for general browsing/website managment? i won,t be doing to much youtube as i use to before.

For general browsing on the internet 10GB should be fine. As long as you aren't going to download large files and large games and huge software. Then you should be fine.

AreMybb,PHPBB and Wordpress large files?

There only a few KB.
