Would like to know why people are setting up forums?

Is it for the fun aspect and achievement or the fact that you can gain from advertising or by pushing forum traffic to other sites?

Thanks

Neither really, I set up my forum to complement my websites

Likewise, at least that was the case when I had a forum. You'll probably find that most forums which are started "for fun", don't last very long.

Yeh for sure.

I'm using it to compliment www.poultrypages.com to try and build traffic.

Currently getting 10,000 uv a month without forum so hopefully that will bring some members

To me a forum is a hobby. It's something to do and keep me busy.

Mine is free. I take it as a hobby, well in a way. I like to think of my good forums as a achievement. Because I most likely put my thoughts and hopes into a forum. Like take my forum "RCX Promotion", I am putting everything I can into it, well except myself, because I dont think I can fit into the computer or forum, lol.

Just started my First one today 🙂
So do think of it as a hobby, or not, or are you just trying to advertise it in the wrong section ?

I use the main domain without the /forum for income, so basically, it is income based, although i don't actually need it to carry on earning.

I just thought it would be a nice addition for members and would retain/build traffic?

as i said in another thread i just wanted to carry on the tradition of 2sgforum.co.uk to an extent because there aren't too many forums the same as the one i made. all in all i think ex members from the site having nothing to do and telling me all the time made me want to give back to the community that gave to me

Nice to see - it depends what your more passionate i suppose.

I think forums always do well when the owner is able to spend time attending to the needs of members
