Anyone tried AVG 2012 free Antivirus, and is it worth upgrading to AVG 2012 from Microsoft Security Essentials.

I been using Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7, and it been an alright antivirus for my needs, but AVG 2012 looks more feature rich.

I read a few reviews which said AVG 2012 is not as system resource intensive as AVG 2011 which in the pass caused my hard drive to always to read and write because of the Cache, and occasionally freezed my PC.

I would say stick with MSE. It is all around better then AVG,but then again most free anti virus programs are.

If you were to switch from MSE , avira or avast would be best.

Thanks, I'm currently giving Vipre Anti-virus a try which seem to be a very lightweight, and speedy antivirus on my older computer running Windows 7.

AVG is not the best AV. Try Avira or Avast.
I use Panda cloud AV, and its great. You can give it a try. 😀

Just a warning for you, vipre seems to have alot of false positives. Atleast from the reviews I have read and tests I have seen done.

I haven't experience any false positive yet, but I only use popular software which thousands and millions of people uses since I download most of my software from the top 100 list from download.com, and reputable download sites like FileHippo, and SourceForge. I think it would be in Vipre best interest to make sure it does not detect Google Chrome as a virus like earlier definitions for Microsoft Security Essentials according to http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/10/micros ... e-browser/

I added most of my most used software which I know is virus free like Firefox to Vipre antivirus whitelist to be on the safe side.

I been using Vipre antivirus for two days, and it seems to be one of the lightest anti-virus I ever used on my older Windows 7 computer with 1GB of RAM.

I personally dont like either but if I had to choose I would say stick with MSSE.

It's funny because I can confirm what you have heard because I've heard the exact same thing. People who have used AVG in the past, up to the 2011 version, have praised it but with the new 2012 they say they have had problems. Personally, I use MSE and am very happy with it. Just my opinion. 🙂
