Would you think having an Ebay store will make people be more likely to buy stuff from your forum vs selling stuff straight from your own store?

Do you think if a forum has a store which sell premium memberships, digital products, members old stuff, old video games, etc people will be more comfortable buying and selling stuff from Ebay, ClickBank, Cafepress, Amazon Marketplace, etc vs your own website?

I rarely buy stuff off of random websites since I can't complain to a third-party like Paypal, Ebay, Amazon, Cafepress, or Clickbank if the guy never ships his stuff, or I never receive my money after my shipment, so I feel more comfortable buying from people or selling stuff to people from bigger websites like Ebay. Plus, I can always check the seller and buyers rating before I decide on if I want to buy or sell a product to them. I don't buy from sellers with a very low ratting.

Well, personally, yes. Since Ebay is so so famous, most of us will think "there will be no danger". As its a BIG company, one fall means a total devastation. So yes, its much better to buy/sell @ Ebay.

More people get scammed on eBay then anywhere else I know of. I personally wouldn't buy/sell anything of high value due to the higher chance of scamming.

Since it's a big company, chances are they don't truly care about one unsatisfied customer as well as people will get a sense of impunity.

If it's like an old bike, then I don't really care since the next place would be the trash so even if I get scammed, it wouldn't be much.

Also, since it's the Internet, the danger is much more higher as you could be dealing with a 6 or 60 year old.

Oh my, that made my reply total zero..

anyway, my head's up whenever i enter ebay than!

You weren't necessarily wrong. eBay is much more trustworthy then smaller sites. I wouldn't want to transfer say a computer via a small website which has no major web presence. Of course you just have to be cautious anywhere on the Internet 🙂

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

Wait..let me get this right..

the people there at ebay are the bad ones, but Ebay isn't?

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

Not everyone is bad. You get the occasional scammer but eBay is generally trustworthy as a whole.

Alright, cool. Thanks David, thanks for the info 🙂

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

I only buy small items off eBay, anything more than ÂŁ20 I don't buy off it.

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

Had a few bad dealings on eBay, but still a great place to buy stuff. I've seen rare demo tapes and such sell on eBay, where finding them elsewhere is near impossible.

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

I buy small stuff like CDs, DVDs, flash drives, screw drivers, and other stuff from Ebay mainly because I don't have much cash to spend on expensive items.

I think buying from a "Top Seller" on Ebay with a 99.5% satisfactory reputation. I got a dealer who was lazy and did not answer my replies on when my item was shipped, so I opened a Paypal dispute and got my money back in a week or so.

The main reason I like Ebay because it accepts Paypal and it is pretty easy to complain about poor service and get my money back.

The thing about ebay is:

#1 - Huge traffic

#2 - The people who are going there are going to buy. They are pre-disposed to buy. People coming to a forum are not necessary there to buy, they are often there just to get information on making a buying decision.

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

Indeed, I mainly go to Ebay to buy, or browse to compare prices with major retailers, and see if I can get a better deal on Ebay.

Forums, and Blogs are mostly good for gathering information about products I will buy at Ebay, or Amazon.

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

Checking out rep is usually a good thing to do when buying from Ebay.

As for this, its usually much easier to sell ANYTHING on Ebay because there are so many people there.

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

I do lots o buying and selling on ebay, but if a forum offered items at unmissable prices, I would but from them.

Re: Is buying and selling and buying on Ebay more comfortabl

The advantage of Ebay is Ebay also owns Paypal, so if you use Paypal to pay, and you never get a shipping confirmation or your item in a few weeks or a month, you can always file a Paypal claim complaint on Ebay or Paypal. If the seller does not respond to your claim, you usually get your money back from the seller, so it is harder for sellers to take your money and run.

But thing with eBay, if you pay with PayPal you are covered if someone does scam you.

True, to a certain extent. Just because you pay with PayPal, it doesn't mean you have automatic cover. PayPal nor eBay are responsible for scams; they merely intervene if someone is abusing PayPal terms. But then again, that's a good thing for PP users.
