Is Facebook killing forums?

I have a Facebook fan page for one of my forums, but the Facebook page is much more active than the forum. I think it's because people visit Facebook and it's a lot easier to see something on their news feed rather than going on a separate website. To be honest, I think you could create a successful 'forum' on Facebook in page form.

If you can't get someone to leave Koobecaf for the five minutes it takes to join a forum, you, A) Have bigger problems, and B) Wouldn't want someone of that mindset around anyway.

I don't feel that it is, Facebook is for social networking. I don't feel that it has any major effect on how forums or blogs are going at the current moment. Even if they hit the "like" button. It is still getting your site more notoriety.

Well, Facebook and others have certainly reduced activity. Mostly, low quality members have ditched us. However, many don't even know the definition of forum. They think that it is some sort of blog. I'm going to try to fix that with my company.

Overall, forums are not dying, and never will. But they have become obscure.

Thanks. We'll be on Kickstarter with it soon, but we need to make up benefits.

Facebook is a waste of Time, most of Tunisians either Use VB forums like Tunisia Sat or Facebook.
I visit fb once per Month, i always keep advertising my forums in my pages.
Many Things that forums can do and facebook can't, Forums allow you to choose any username , any avatar, they have Tidy Rules and Organization, Many specific topic to get involved in, Mods those allow you to customize the way you post, your profile, etc.. While Facebook Restricts people from choosing alternative names than their Real name, You must know someone before sending a friend Request, you have to solve Anti-Spam in everytime you try to advertise on your own page, also don't share your favorite song for the name of "Violating Copyrights", did i claim i own that video? No, That idiot Owner is gaining money from is Death machine, i would say Forums win over FB, i know someone relative who joined Super Mario Deep and used to post daily, however she quit forums to Fb saying "People Change", No Thanks, i want to keep being outdated wether you like or not, that was my response, here's another example of people dumping forums to Facebook!

YES definitely
but doesnt rule for every kind of forum type there is

proven because this forum is still huge and popular

but forums that used to be big and filled with teens
........ yeah, facebook made them addicted to FB
and they all forgot about their previous cool hang outs online

No, I don't think that Facebook is killing forums. Facebook will die out eventually if people lose interest. I think it's easier to attract interest on forums because users who join a forum are on their for a reason, to discuss a topic they enjoy or for advice.

I am not sure if it's JUST Facebook, but rather, sites like it that make it easier to "communicate" in a less time-consuming way that doesn't require much effort. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Myspace... Other kinds of blog-type websites that take out the discussion part and replace it with pictures, etc.

A lot of people I know personally do not like to join forums because it "takes too much effort" and they are "lazy", which is interesting to me. Perhaps I just know a bunch of lazy people.

Forums allow me an anonymous outlet where I can share my opinion. They also allow me to meet new people and either care about those people or not care about them.

Facebook is good for connecting with people and posting occasional statuses.

Honestly, I have started texting/calling/seeing people in person much more than I use Facebook/Forums/Onlinestuff.
