Do you think the Google Sandbox effect is real? If you do not know what the Google Sandbox is you can read more information on it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_effect. I put an excerpt from the article below also. Personally, I think it is, I have had this effect on a few websites I have created in the past but most where when I used Blackhat methods when I first started the websites rather then whitehat methods. In recent years, when I have used whitehat methods on a brand new site I have not seen the "Sandbox" effect occur.

According to the theory of the sandbox effect, links which may normally be weighted by Google's ranking algorithm, not least improving the position of a webpage in Google's index, may be subjected to filtering to prevent their having a full impact. Some observations have suggested that two important factors for causing this filter to come into play are the active age of a domain, and the competitiveness of the keywords used in links.

Google sandbox is only applicable for new domains (Age less than 9 months). We can't rank new domains for competitive keywords. Its true.
