Is it acceptable Moderators call you an idiot ?

If anyone on my forum called someone else an idiot I would warn them and talk with them about it. I don't care if they're a moderator or a regular member. We're all part of one community and we need to respect eachother.

In some situations, it is acceptable to call an unintelligent person an idiot.

It is never acceptable for a member of staff to call anyone a name publicly or in PM to them. If they cannot deal with a situation in a responsible manner then they have no business being a Mod -- and I can certainly help relieve them of that burden. ;-)

It depends on the forum. I would not let my moderators parade around calling members idiots because they represent the community and site.

It's like the manager or and employee of a company calling a customer an idiot--even if they were being one. It always makes the COMPANY look bad.

usually when a mod does things like that, the user isn't allowed to return the insult or he gets banned. so it amounts to an abuse.

let's not assume that mods on forums all over are saints and calling a member an idiot is some isolated horrifying incident. there are plenty of forums with rotten staff, and they got hired on because the admin is the same way.

no, it's not acceptable.

I visit forums like that and I criticize the staff and the administrators. I tell them that users are on the same level as moderators and administrators and they can't do anything they want.

They were making their post counts 10,000+ because they were staff and I got angry at them. They just need to understand that if you're being stupid all your members will leave you. Once I actually paid a member to stop posting on a site for a week and come post on my site  Just to show the admin "Hey, look members are leaving and coming to my site."

I believe that any member of staff should be polite and as professional as possible all the time. If the staff is not professional it will start to make the website look more childish and shows that the forum/website is not properly moderated. I find that staff that are professional and polite are always favoured by members and encourages activity.

No it is not. To be a moderator comes a great responsibility to be polite to everyone and to explain in the nicest way possible if an error shows up or if the admin has made the wrong decision.
I always look for moderators who are calm and don't get upset by any spamer or flamer. You should always check the staff before you hire it.
