I notice there are more web pages without extensions like example.com/webpage espicially on blogs, and cms websites like Drupal, Joomla, MODx rather a webpage with an extension like example.com/webpage.html, example.com/webpage.php, example.com/webpage.aspx , etc.

Does having an extension vs not having an extension for a website page file makes any difference for SEO and can all search engines recognize that your website is a website HTML file if it does not have an extension.

Could not having an extension at the end of a website lead to a website being poorly indexed or not openable by older browsers?

I say it works better.
Best when you have pages like example.com/example.php?example=example .
Also easier to remember and better for visitors that don't like .html/.php/.something .

It doesn't really matter although for blogs etc I think it is actually better to have the end of the URL with no extension as it's just become the norm. Although having said that the end-user who uses the site; it doesn't matter what the URL is on the website as long as they can navigate around the site.
