I was wondering, is it legal to embed someone elses youtube videos that they posted on youtube to place them on your own website?

Yup, if they allow embedding then it is. That's not to say that embedding copyrighted material is legal even though you don't upload it, so still be careful of that.

Lets say someone made a video guide on beating gta game for ps3. Is that considered copyrighted material?

Well this isn't legal advice, but I'd say you'd be safe with that. Really it would be up to the video maker, but since they allow embedding they couldn't do anything.

Although I'm not the most well-versed person in copyright law, I don't believe that this constitutes copyright infringement.

Technically it is illegal, but it is rarely enfored. If anything it just promotes the game more.
(to make the gta video)

I guess it depends on the licensing. For example, one can use images from RuneScape as long as they include that the images are copyrighted by its makers.

How is using embedded codes illegal? I mean... the youtube admins PUT them on the site for the viewers to use. If you don't want the video to be shown on other sites, then check it off in the video options menu.

Exactly, if you see an embed URL, just go for it.

The point of the matter is if they don't want it put onto other sites then they should disable the embedding feature for their video. It's not like they aren't getting views just because people are viewing it on an external site.

Unless the material in the video is under direct conflict with copyright laws then you'll be fine. It isn't your responsibility to decide if there is permission for the video to be made and submitted. If it is allowed to be embeded then you're fine. When you upload a video to Youtube, you are giving them permission to promote your video and essentially use it anyway they see fit. If you give them permission to embed it, than its free to post anywhere as long as Youtube doesn't ever decide that the video material infringes upon copyrights or receives a complaint. If that ever happens to be the case, they will just remove the video and it will continue to be no concern to you.

I have to do all the videos for my sites through the flv format. It can get so annoying!
