I was thinking, maybe it’s possible for someone to attempt to reverse your website SEO and make it worse rather than better?
I mean I could see rivals trying to do this to their competition and am wondering how easy it would be to do it and how we could protect our websites from this sort of activity?
The reverse method is a fully negative SEO technique which is called black hat SEO, If I'm right or not Xd. Don't do this. it is a bad impact on your website. The only time that you see the Black Hat is people dislike the forum to make your day SAD
Still, doesn't seem to be easy if you do want to do it......
With all of the free tools available (Ahref for example) it’s easy to see where a website is getting it’s PR from, and how to fuse the same keywords to make it go down or even negative (act like a spammer on websites linking to your URL).
Negative off-page SEO attacks are said to be reasonably easy to achieve because there's more than one way to skin that cat and being off-page it doesn't require much knowledge to put into practice.
I have no idea at all how damaging these methods might be but they are generally listed as mistakes to be avoided if you value SEO on your own site. I think it would be a bit irresponsible to go into any further detail, especially because I'm not aware that this kind of attack can be avoided.
On-page SEO attacks aka hacking can clearly do a lot of damage and may well go on noticed because visually you won't see the damage. This however should be a lot easier to protect against if you take steps to keep you site and server secure.
It's rare but even if you've been penalized, Google has a tool in its Search Console to help with it.
People have tried to hurt one of my websites by building a bunch of links to it on multiple porn sites but I didn't really notice any negative effects back then. I also haven't used any tools to devalue the links.
If I have access to your site, I can implement some strategies that will lower your search engine ranking. Without having access to your site, there is nothing anyone can do to "reverse SEO".
Indeed, the possibility of someone reversing your SEO efforts exists and can manifest in various ways.
1) One scenario involves your website falling victim to hacking, whereby the perpetrator alters all the links pointing to your site, redirecting traffic to another website instead of yours. For instance, if your website is hacked and the hacker replaces your internal links with links leading to a competitor's website, your site may experience a decline in traffic as visitors perceive it as irrelevant and choose not to visit.
2) Another method involves an SEO company acquiring all the backlinks directed towards your site and redirecting them to their own websites rather than yours. Similarly, if someone purchases an old website with numerous backlinks and employs those links to divert traffic away from their own site and towards yours, it is known as link spamming or link fraud.
3) Another tactic involves tampering with or generating fraudulent content on your website, creating the impression that someone else authored it. This deceptive practice is referred to as cloaking.

Yes, its true. Google generally ignore these types of links otherwise webmasters start to work on reverse SEO for his competitors because if Google will penalize them means our website will be on top but its about impossible.
