Is keyword research worth it for making forum topics?

Would you think doing Keyword research worth it for forum topics to get more hits from search engines?

I heard people use the Adword keyword tool: https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/ ... earch.none to do Keyword research.

I mostly hear of bloggers, and website owners using Keyword research to get more search traffic by looking for keywords related to their websites category with a lot of searches, but low competition in the search engine results. But, rarely I hear of Forum owners doing Keyword research for topics.

Would it be worth it to do some keyword research, or spend time on other areas like backlink building, SEO, and social media.

I used it to both help determine which anchor text to use and what keywords to use in both the forum and description. Other than that I don't really target much else. I get hundreds of google hits per day and the terms people search for related for my site are ridiculous.

I think it is alot of a better idea to use it for a blog,
