I read on Warrior Forum, and other webmaster forums that webmaster who had a lot of traffic from search engines for years suddenly lost all or most of their traffic from search engines after a Google Update like the Google Panda Update. Most of them claim they were not trying to trick the search engines by keyword stuffing, and spamming links.

I think Search Engines can still be a good long term way of getting traffic, but you should also use social networks, e-mail, blog commenting, and post exchanges for getting members.

i only get 5% of my traffic from google

if you run a forum in a nitch then seach engines are not that big to you

In SEO forum postings, blog commenting social bookmarking and directory submission is the technique that is used for increasing the traffic in seo.I think without these things we can't increased the traffic for our sites or links.....

I think the best answer is yes! SEO will always be like this! Even if now SEO only means Google Optimization.

Yeah, what could be better than having a constant flow of visitors from Search Engines :great:

yeah and all the people on the warrior forum have just posted quality content and never tried anything 'fishy' 😀

Well, SEO is important, you cannot work without it. It shouldn't be taken to such extent that you'd alienate members and get penalized though and most the people who suffered from the updates were not really playing 'nice'. I have seen NO change in my sites and some have been online for 10 years already.

You are right dojo, SEO work may never go over user experience! SEO tuning is just something that happens in the background 😉

SEO's still an important way to get traffic although, it can be time consuming, not be particularly effective for small forums and might be unstable during updates but, it can still overally contribute greatly to the traffic.

This Panada update really messed me up and my site up. My site used to be in first page when someone searched "computer and technology forum". But now I can't even find it anymore...
Problem with alot of Google's algorithms that I've seen is that they tend to report an awful lot of false positives.

I think as far as SEO goes content is still king and I presume it always will be. 90% of the traffic to my main site comes from the free search engines.

I get tons of search engine traffic from Google on my various blogs, it doesn't always convert to clicks on Adsense though.

Yes off course SEO is still a good long term way of getting traffic. Because SEO is the only technique which can help you in getting traffic by different ways like forum posting, blog posting, directory posting and guest posting etc. All these are great techniques which can help you in getting traffic as well as high page ranking.

SEO is the source of traffic for all and more so for those who cannot spend much on advertising.

-- 06 Aug 2013, 16:23 --

Get the basics done and don't venture too much in the dark side if you want to be in the good books of big G.

Not only Good but SEO is the best way to get at the top of the search results regardless of the search engine. If you read about how search crawlers and spiders work when it comes to indexing, you will know that without SEO, a website cant be seen.

I think SEO will always be very important.

It was important before, it is important now, it will remain important.
