With the domain industry at an all-time high, making it difficult to get a decent .com domain, how important is the extension of the domain these days?

I feel like I've answered this somewhere on this forum, but I guess it's been buried after a few months lol

I usually try to go for a .com whenever possible, as it solves all sorts of problems like people being able to remember the URL and it's usually fairly cheap. Unfortunately, there are a lot of domain squatters who like snatching domains whenever they come up.

I feel .com is the global king. But it really doesn't matter these days when we have country based TLDs.

I don't like tying a site to a particular geographic area for all of eternity, especially one which passes laws like Article 11, Article 13 and the General Data Protection Regulation. Or who may do so in the future. Being able to move a site is nice.
