This is a question that's being asked very often these days: do you think it's worth buying the iPhone 17? Personally, I don't think so, because from the last one that came out to this new one, the 17, I honestly don't see a big leap or a significant difference, but what do you think?

I upgrade my iPhone when the previous unit becomes too old or slow to be of practical use so I tend to miss at least a couple of upgrades. My 15 Pro is still going strong and the 17 doesn't really offer much over what I already have so I'll give it a miss.

It's probably not worth jumping from the 16 to the 17, but if you've got something older, I'd say it's worth it.

I have the 17 pro max, 1 TB.

It was worth it for me because my previous iPhone was 5 years old and the battery life was going down, the charger port didn't work (could only charge wirelessly), etc.

I have noticed a difference in performance and camera vs my old iPhone, everything is better, smoother, faster, crisper, etc.

Do I think the 17 is worth the price tag? ....No, it should be more affordable
Do I love my new phone regardless how much I paid for it? ...Yes! 😛

Oh yeah and I use my phone a lot outdoors and the 17 has a way better display for that. 17 is hitting 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness and all previous models only had 2,000 nits.

We always buy a couple models behind, we score new or refurbished iphones for a few hundred bucks each time, and they last years. We can't see a reason to buy the newest usually. It got to a point where cameras and apps & everything got good enough and realistically each new model is really just more about capitalism and marketing than anything else.

If you give a caveman a match, a lighter, a torch, and some wood, do they really need a flamethrower? There is a plateau that was hit years ago imho.

Of course there will be a time when that changes, but the tech has not fundamentally improved in the same way we saw leaps between other models. The thing I think will change this is hybrid quantum/classical chips for phones, as well as more firepower such as optimized chips for local AI use.

few hundred bucks

If saving money is your goal and if you're forking out a few hundred bucks for a used phone, then you are not being very frugal. 😛 Figure out a way to get it free through cellphone carrier free upgrades and things like that. 😀

Eh, not really for money. I still have spent over $1K on some galaxy phones, but it's more about the fact that we don't need to and we can save $700-1000 when we do it like that. I spend more on my main phone because I use it for work so often, but for my fiance's phone and personal phone, we go with the 2+ year old.

& yes to the upgrades of course

I don't think any iPhone is worth it, let alone one that costs $2500 aud. Forever an Android user.

Agreed, Androids are more cost effective and unless people are making heavy use of iMessages w/ friends & family or other i-products, they likely don't need an iPhone.

The main use case of an iPhone, for me, is being able to develop apps for other iPhone users. I don't benefit enough from iCloud or similar i-products to justify the cost and would rather spend the money on Android overall.

I personally believe that there is nothing an iPhone offers that is not cheaper and better on an Android. Sometimes iPhone pulls ahead - sometimes - for 1 feature, or 1 hardware spec, but rarely is it ever far ahead.

I purchased my iPhone 17 through a monthly payment plan. It was either that or paying full price for an older iPhone. With all its capabilities and being up-to-date with the latest technology, I'm happy with my purchase. However, if I couldn't afford it, my opinion would be different. So ultimately, it came down to what I could afford at the time.

How much storage does yours hold?

256 GB

I've used about 100 of it thus far.

That must be so nice. I only have 64GB on my Google Pixel and it's almost full. The phone glitches so much because there isn't much room. I deleted so many things off of it and it still acts up.

That's all I had on my previous iPhones. iOS games that I rarely play are taking up most of the space on my current iPhone, particularly Call of Duty and Game of Thrones: Kingsroad.

I have an iPhone 14 Pro and I did consider upgrading to the iPhone 17 but I didn't like the color options they had for the Pro. I think there are definitely some perks with it but the colors were a dealbreaker for me. I do think it would've been cheaper and saved me money on my phone bill to upgrade, though, strangely enough.

I have a 15 pro. The biggest turn off for me about the 17 is the way the camera is designed. It’s starting to look more and more like androids.

I hate the way the camera looks too! I feel like it makes it look super bulky and awkward.

I just stick to my Android phone; there are so many to pick and choose based on how much you are willing to spend, and if you buy it outright, you can make it last for around five years. I mean, each time there is a new phone out, it's nothing major to say WOW.

Iwould rather eat an applethan buyg and own a tech apple

The iPhone 17 is really worth it in terms of everything. It is superior to any other smartphone for now in terms of durability, performance and camera. With the Titanium Fusion Frame, it is stronger, yet lighter.
