Possibly, I'm seeing more people who wrap ads around the top or inside (middle) of their content and using over sized square ads or 8-12 inline ads which make it difficult to read their content. I think it could be caused by the poor economy and joblessness is at an all time high in some areas.
I been on some sites which also try to make ads look less noticeable, and look like actual content or non-ad links. I think it can get kind of annoying.
Pop-ups and talking ads seem to be coming back.
I get this feeling like they don't care about generating their reader much, and are in it for the money when I visit their website...
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
I try to keep ads at the min unless I have a promotion site which then I make it look nice like its ment to have all the ads well it is. A banner rotation at the top is fine. Thats all you need. Maybe global announcements which don't look very messy aslong as you keep it to 1 or two.
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
I have ads on my blog and forum and I use them to help recoup the costs of the hosting and domain and nothing more. It wouldn't be right to use ads to use towards other things. That's not the intention of having ads on the site.
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
I mostly use advertising money to recoup some of the money from domain, web hosting, and additional fees which come with running websites on paid web hosts.
I feel there are people are using ad money from website for personal use like paying for "vacations, toys, and other things" instead of using it for improving their forum, website, blogs community, or for a nice paid template, custom MODs, faster web hosting, so all the members can enjoy the website more.
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
I have 3 ads on EP. One at very top right, ones on side, and one in footer. All are out of way of the content the reader is trying to read and I feel they are placed nicely. Also, they do not stick out real bad like some sites.
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
I don't like adverts, and im trying to keep my forums free from adverts. Ive got a few months of hosting paid for so i don't need to worry about that. If i was to place adverts it would go towards maybe some more months of hosting, Paid mods for my forums, pay staff or even to help towards a new theme or something.
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
This is definitely a problem.
For example, on DigitalPoint, they have ads which link to certain keywords in posts. It changes the colour to a different shade of green and underlines it with a back glow. So it's faily obvious and actually destroys the entire outlook of your post.
But the economy is definitely playing a part in this. People are scrounging for pennies in RL, so i dont see why the digital world should be any different tbh.
Re: Is the poor economy making people post more ads on sites
Every time I visit a digitalpoints post it ask me if I want to advertise with a Window which slowly scroll from the left of the website. It is very annoying.
I dislike how DP posts ads within the content of the first posts by warping content around ads instead of just having a banner on the header and footer, or just in the middle of the first, second and third posts
