Hello,

I am wondering if there is a better topic for a forum...

Is it easier to run a promotion forum (for example)? Or does it not matter?
You can change "promotion forum" with any topic.

I'm currently running a "help me code" "club" type of forum but I'm thinking about changing it to a promotion forum because maybe it'll be more successful?
I'm not sure...it was just a thought that I had.

Running a community is not an easy task even when you administrate a very simple site which has a very common topic. Every topic presents some difficulties. In my opinion, the best tip in order to make a sucessful community is to know many things about the topic and be friendly, sociable. Every person likes posting in a community where the other members are his/her friends. Also, advertising plays an important role, especially nowadays.
Finally, changing the topic of a current community is not a good decision for me. Perhaps, you can create another forum and start creating content for it. Don't forget that being a successful webmaster needs time, dedication, money and passion.

:great:

It's easier to have a successful general discussion forum than, perhaps, a writing forum. That's a matter of logic. There are more people that like EVERYTHING than just writing. Also, promotion forums will seem easier because people will have an incentive to make the site successful.

But there are many promotion forums out there. Most of them don't usually succeed.

I completely understand what you guys are saying.

I guess I'll just admin or mod on a promotion forum because this one means too much to me.

But this is still an interesting topic to me.

You should pick a genre based in something you enjoy and have knowledge and interest in. Just because a certain genre is successful, doesn't mean any forum based on that genre is immediately going to be successful. If you don't have a clue about the genre at all, nor enjoy or have interest in it, you won't be getting very far.

Some topics are easier to run that others. For instance, a promotional forum might be a tad easier for the 'self interest' aspect, though it'd also likely have worse quality discussions as everyone would be posting just to get their signature link out there more.

It's always best to pick a niche that you know well, and love. If you're a die hard gamer, it's best to make a forum based around gaming. Though there are many different gaming forums out there, you'll need to brainstorm ideas on how you can get new members while giving them something new so they will join and stay. There are tons of promotional forums, but yet again you need to come up with exciting ideas to keep people interesting and to bring in new members. The best forums comes from the heart, and everyone's preferences are different so in reality the only "better topic for a forum" would be a topic you love and are willing to do lots of research, hard work and dedication to keep it alive. 🙂
