Interesting. Will you be using a script or will it be coded? πŸ™‚
And have you decided upon a domain yet?

Yes I have a domain and I will be making it from scratch, even no frameworks πŸ™‚

Facebook has dominated the social network niche for years now and has been the major player of the fall of Myspace and Bebo. So if pre-established major social networks are loosing their user base then what hope is there for a new social network? No one wants to join an empty social networks so how do you get it started? I was recently a director of marketing at a new social network called Statuz and I was surprised to find it actually did well and looks like it could be a big hit in the future but do you think there is a chance that another major social network could come along even when the likes of Google couldn't do it?

I honestly don't see how anyone can build a better social network than Facebook. I mean, you see them hosting these parties where they do nothing but hack and create new features for the site often.

Unless someone can build something and monetize it better than Facebook, I don't see how anyone would want to invest in it after the Facebook IPO flop.

Never even heard of Statuz. Don't think any others have a chance because no one wants to go somewhere else where none of their friends are.

With the way FB is acting I'd say that there will be a need for a new social networking site that doesn't charge for messages and such like. There will be some pretenders out there (that much is certain), it's just a case of which one will take the crown from FB.

I'm a member of a new Social Network site called myearthstation. If anyone's interested they can just google it and it is at the top of the list. It's not bad.

It is a tough competition, but let it be known that ALL of the Internet is a tough competition. Every day new sites spring up, and I myself, keep on trying new niches to be the "next big thing." The only thing keeping me back is marketing, and it is hard to find people to help you market a website sadly.

So, we will see how my ideas take me, though my favorite quote. "if you want to be successful, want to succeed as bad as you would want to breath"

It will happen, a new social network will one day replace Facebook. After all, nothing lasts forever, and just like how everyone thought the likes of Myspace was going to be a permanent success, so will the same happen to Facebook.

Don't ask what it's going to be though, I don't know. I can't know, and no one can, the next big thing is usually something no one expects.

It'll probably come from absolutely nowhere (not a big company or organisation) and take everyone by surprise.

Facebook will eventually be replaced, and a new social network will succeed. Just give it time.

I always did have mixed feelings about this. Part of me wants to say yes becasue just like with forums, there are ways you can make your site stand out, but part of me wants to say no because there're already tons of social networks out there to choose from...this is one subject I have always been a bit iffy about.

Facebook has dominated the web but Pinterest is generating more revenue. There is always a chance someone will have the next best idea. Time will tell and we'll all be waiting.

I heard a lot of people get banned from Facebook for doing stuff like being underaged, spamming, trolling, posting posts which are against the terms of service, and for other reasons.

I think if someone makes a social network for people who got banned from Facebook, and it is as good or better than Facebook, it might be successful since the people who get banned from Facebook will join another social network, and also invite their friends to join a non-Facebook social network if they want to stay in touch with them since they are banned from Facebook, and now uses a different social network.

Google Plus is getting more popular with people these days.

Why would you want to create a social network for trolls, spammers and people who violate a -mostly reasonable- TOS?

In my friend group, Twitter has stolen a lot of my friends away from Facebook. People go where their friends are; the specific social network really doesn't mean much.

I won't leave FB until a good amount of my friends do (there's still a large portion there).

If there's going to be a new social network it should be for gamers and online buddies. It should be a basic site that allows people to message their friends in one place, so they don't have to check a bunch of inboxes on sites.
Profiles should be primitive, but should allow users to put in all the sites they belong to and their usernames.

Then you could grow from there.

The design for my social network is near completed, just got to make sure those things which make it different than the others stand out πŸ˜‰

No I can't tell you yet! But it isn't something like: socialnetwork.com, it's completely irrelevant like Twitter's name is
