Hi everyone, I'm buying a new computer today. It costs $400 and I was wondering if its a pretty good and fast computer. It's the HP G7 1261nr laptop
It has a 17.3" screen
500GB HDD
6GB of RAM
An AMD A4 dual core processor at 1.9GHz with turbo boost of 2.5GHz
A dedicated graphics card which is a radeon HD 6480 with 3061MB of memory
Blu-Ray player
6 or 7 hours of battery life I domt remember
3 USB 2.0; 1 Ethernet; 1 HDMI; 1 VGA 15-pin D-sub
Mic and webcam

So whatcha think? Will it be a huge upgrade form my eMachines computer with a 2GHz processor, 0.99GB of RAM, a 143GB HDD

Thanks!

Well considering it is not a Mac, I would have to go with no. Macs are the best computers that are on the market right now.

Just because its not a mac, doesn't mean it cant be a good computer! 😉

Someone just bought a mac haha.

Not knowing what you're going to be using it for it's hard to tell. If you're just looking at something to browse the web with then sure why not. Anything more demanding than that it'd be best to save up your dough.

I agree with Mr. Breezy! You took the words right out my mouth.

Wait for the MacBook Pro 2012 which is coming June 11th. You'll absolutely love the new design.

It lasts much longer than PCs in my opinion and are pretty fast. It also comes with an SSD which is way better than an HDD. 🙂

This is like recommending a guy to buy a penthouse when he's looking for an apartment in the bronx. Someone buying a $400 laptop doesn't have the money to spend $2000+ on a mac book pro haha.

An SSD is useful for system files and frequently used programs, ideally it would be best to have a 80-120GB SSD drive and a 1 TB hard drive for storage, considering Apple will likely charge $2+ per gig

lol @ Apple fanboys.

That's not a bad price for what you're getting, though I'm not a big fan of AMD. At 17"+ it's definitely not portable, just thought I'd throw that in there.

SSD isn't better, it's faster. And only until it stops working. They also do not last longer than any other computer, that's a ridiculous statement.

"Macs are the best computers that are on the market right now."
The guy is asking for advice, not your opinion.

Oh, and I'm a 2011 Macbook Pro owner.

I would cut off my leg for a computer like that ... It sounds good enough!

Uh....TBH I'm probably the biggest apple fanboy here, not in devices, but in faith and loyalty.

I cant get a Mac, they are too much money. 🙂

The computer sounds good for web browsing, watching HD movies, school, Windows Live Movie Maker HD video editing, Image Editing with Gimp, MS Office 2010, and possibly some games which are not super demanding on the video card.

Computer sure came down in price I remember my older computer with only 1GB of RAM, and a intel Dual core CPU, and 320GB hard drive costed about 400 something.

I love the computer! Got it today.
You made a fine purchase. <3 I'm pretty impressed that it has a Blu-ray player and a 17.3 inch screen for only $400.

I have had macs for ~15 years and even I'm not THAT deluded.

Do you mind if I ask where you got it? Just curious. XD
I believe it'd be http://shopping.hp.com, they've still got their memorial sale on I believe which gives $100 off + what ever other instant rebate is already available 😉.

And there's even considering the fact that some programs aren't compatible with Macs, even with third-party programs.. from what I know.

I say, you should get this computer, considering that 6GB of RAM should be pretty fast, not to half a terabyte worth of space.

Can't say much on the rest though, but it sounds like a good buy.

I got it from office depot at their memorial day sale. It ends tomorrow so you better act fast! It's regular $700 on sale for $400

is it a computer or laptop?
if it's a laptop, you got an okay deal
if it's a PC, you didn't do bad but nothing to brag about
