Is Titanic too long?

Harry Potter is like that, too. Doesn't feel long though. Same with Titanic. Too good of a movie.

Some of the scenes they could have cut.... probably be about five hours long if you include any deleted scenes they had.

Could the film Titanic, which is 5 hours long, have been shortened and still told a great story?

I love Titanic but my gf refuses to watches it because she thinks it's boring and too sappy. Then she told me it's too long to even attempt to watch again. But I never feel like I'm watching a 5 hour film. So I thought I'd ask you guys. 😀

Wouldn't it normally be the guy who thinks it's sappy? :bored:

We're both female so that doesn't apply for us.

Given the detailed character building and since this was based on a true story, I would say no it isn't too long. For today's standards, maybe? It might help to break up the movie into 3 parts. They could have done this originally but I don't think it would have been as impactful.

At the time would they break it into three movies like they did for harry potter and whatnot

God, no. A movie like that wouldn't have been successful. Breaking up the VHS and DVD release was more than enough.

I've never seen a 5H version to be completely honest, I've seen the movie a handful of times. Each time the length was just over 3 hours. Although, that's still a long movie. I guess it all depends on your taste, if you're enjoying the movie then it isn't a waste of time. Sometimes good stories take longer to tell, and I could name a few movies which should have been extended to better tell the story in depth.

No, I don't think so. This isn't just a movie. It's a remake of a story of a real tragic event. It would be disrespectful for any detail to be left out, which I know is one reason why James Cameron wanted to keep as much detail in as possible.

And this is coming from someone that doesn't watch movies very often. Perhaps once or twice a year, if that.
