Have any of you guys have success getting members, or traffic from Tumblr?

I heard from Lockergnome is a good site for spreading your posts since it makes it easy for Tumblr members to repost your post on your Tumblr blog with a click of a button like Twitter, but Tumblr seem like a site where people don't really leave Tumblr, and just stay on Tumblr to read other people's posts.

I probably use Tumblr more as well if I want more people to just read my content since Tumblr is set up more like a social network then a blogging site like Blogspot where you write, but you have to actively promote your content via word of mouth, e-mailing people to read it, and linking on other sites.

But, I'm not sure how much traffic can I get to my forum if I use Tumblr to attract members since social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and other social sites seem to be difficult to get members from.

I think it can be; you can find many people on there. You can also reblog things to get the word around.

I'm using it with seesmic ping to promote things on the go along with linkedin, twitter and facebook.

I haven't had time to set link trackers up yet to see how many clicks we are getting but you should use every resource at your disposal to promote your websites.

I haven't actually had any members from Tumblr, but I am sure it helps to get the link around.

I read somewhere the links on Tumblr are dofollow links, so it might raise your pagerank up on Google, and other search engines. I used Tumblr to promote some of my sites, and get a small amount of traffic, but not as much as search engines, and other sites.

It's sort of funny that you ask this. The origin of the forum I am planning on opening shortly actually started from my tumblr. I reblog artistic things, things that grab my curiosity and things that invoke conversations. From there I decided I wanted a community in which I could discuss such things. Though I have to agree with the man speaking in the video, Tumblr is going to become a website that is a necessity in online advertising.

Tumblr can boost traffic but not so much from search engine in my experience.

Tumblr is en route to bankruptcy. They have virtually zero revenue. They began accepting paid ads in mixture with free ads on dashboards recently. Think that can pay for their hundreds of millions in hosting?

It could help and work as a promotion method, but only for relevant site such as photo site, or blog sites, or relevant new/media interests.

If you can find people with an interest in your forum's topic then sure, why not?

I haven't had too much positive experience from it though. It's mainly just people reblogging funny pictures and not often branching off to the sources.

exactly

i tried for a forum but nothing good came out of it i think
its a waste
people are too consumed with tumblr xD

I've looked at tumblr a few times in recent months and thought about trying it out a few times now...

I've never used tumblr because I felt like the time I could spend there would be as worthwhile as other advertising methods. (Because like people have mentioned, it seems like people who use tumblr a lot tend to stay on tumblr and not really branch out a lot. So it sort of feels like a waste of time for me to spend there posting.)

(Plus on a side note, I always have troubles figuring out what to post to these sites...)
