How do you feel when the internet is working slowly?

My new home has FTTP (fiber to the premises) which in the UK is quite robust compared to the alternatives. I'm currently on the slowest (80/20) plan which is more than enough to suite my needs. I may upgrade when I get my recording studio fully up and running though.

It's not super fast but it's good enough to download and stream and whatnot and get a good ping in gaming

I have 1gig up and down, so that has been good. My ISP uses trash modems, so they die about once a year which is not ideal, but free to replace.

It seems that I need to buy a new router.

I would try and borrow one before spending money on something that might not give you any improvement.

I'd also use a remote service to ping your current equipment. Something like https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality

That will help properly diagnose the problem.

I actually think my Internet is way better than it was using Comcast/Xfinity. We used them for so many years and finally changed recently. It's been way better IMO and don't need to deal with data caps.
