Hey,

I am disgusted. Just disgusted. The other day was Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday which honors a Mexican victory over the French in a battle. What happened in one school on this day was so shockingly un-american that it beings to question the competence of some school officials. What happened was many Mexican-Americans were wearing Mexican flag t-shirts and other "Mexican Pride" oriented clothing. Some kids, though, took it upon themselves to wear American flag T-shirts. These kids were asked to change shirts or wear them in-side out, as the american flag, according to a vice principle, was causing disruption. What the ****?

Okay, this is AMERICA, the melting pot. These people are AMERICANS. How can a person call themselves an american citizen if they are offended by the site of the flag of the United States of America. the american flag proudly represents many ethnicities and cultures, as America is indeed the "melting pot". The american flag does not just represent people of English origin, but also people from Mexico! How can this person stand to ask some kids to take off the symbol of American liberty just because it happens to be the 5th of May? They have the right to wear whatever flag they want on their shirt, whether it's the Iranian flag, the Mexican flag, or the United States' flag! This is an outrage. These people should be sued for every red cent in their possession. They should be either fired or be sent off for sensitivity training.

What do you think of this?

Being a Canadian, I believe in the Cultural Mosaic style of immigration. The Mexican people in your school deserve the right to celebrate a holiday Mexicans don't normally celebrate, and I don't really oppose your teacher's actions at all.

They can celebrate their holiday as much as they like, I don't care. But these Americans should be allowed to wear their flag.

To be truthfully honest I think anyone should be able to wear the "flag" they want to wear, wearing an american flag on such a date may be seen as provocative, but it's hardly offensive.

There are some situations where it is inappropriate to where a certain flag, But I don't feel this is one of them.

While I love America, we have one of the most corrupt, if not, the most corrupt, governmental leaders in power of any nation.

I trust no one in "authority" here.

Almost every single "way" is upside down in this country.

THIS IS THE CHANGE WE GOT PEOPLE!!!

Here's to another 2 glorious years of "change" :cheer:

I doubt that the shirts alone were the issue, Cosmic. I'm sure that the "American" kids were trying to make the Mexicans out to be criminals just because they are proud of their heritage.

But it is never offensive to wear your own flag in your own country. Otherwise, I agree with you. =)

@snobo: No. But this was near the US / Mexico border.

@Saruman: amen.

I love the way that every time something like this happens, the "liberals" are to blame. I put "liberals" in quotes because Obama is a conservative-leaning moderate.

Yeah, it's all Obamas fault.

What? Are you from America, Snobo? If so, then you do not know how America defines conservatism. And I do not blame the liberals. I think this was caused by people how are too tied up in political correctness.

Yes. I'm unfortunately American, but I am a true liberal (libertarian leftist), and I can tell you that Obama is a conservative-leaning moderate on the universal scale.

I don't know why but I've noticed that us British like to talk about things moraly, whereas it's nearly always politics with Americans  I may not be correct here, just my observation.

WOAHH!!! Who said anything about Mr. "B.O."

Since you brought him in...

I'm about as red-blooded an American as you can get but I'll be damned if I want to see anyone with the morals of Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the liberals, Republican or Democrat, do anything positive for this nation. To hell with them all. Conservative associates of mine have expressed that they hope Obama does good. From the very start I expressed that I hope he fails to prove to everyone who voted for this inexperienced "leader in office now" what kind of change they voted in.

At least Arizona, my state, has done the nation a favor of upping its stance on illiegal immagration and how it has affected the minds of students in classrooms.

Maybe one of the polictal leaders should consult that school principle and affected students for a "beer summit" that seemed to have "worked" out in the past...

Beer Summit!
Beer Summit!!
Beer Summit!!!

:cheer:

Then let's call him a "progressive", which is a term these people sometimes use in referring to themselves. Conservatives stand for the constitution and the values of the founders of this country. Progressives see the constitution as a flawed document which limits the power of the government, which they wish to expand. But this is not a discussion about Barrack Obama, this is a discussion about the rights to wear the flag of your choice. As a Libertarian, I would think you would respect the right of these people to wear whatever flag they like, be it Mexican or american.

You brought him in with your comments on "two more years of change".

Yes, rooting for him to fail is a great way to support your country.

At least Arizona, my state, has done the nation a favor of upping its stance on illiegal immagration and how it has affected the minds of students in classrooms.

Are you referring to the original bill or the newer modified version?

Maybe one of the polictal leaders should consult that school principle and affected students for a "beer summit" that seemed to have "worked" out in the past...

Beer Summit!
Beer Summit!!
Beer Summit!!!

:cheer:

Yeah, I can't argue with the last part. The beer summit was complete bull.

I do. However, you have to look at both sides--anybody should have the right to wear whatever flag they like as long as they're not trying to keep anyone else from doing the same. Once you attempt to impede the rights of others, you give up your rights. You have to remember that the American media often tries to portray one side of an incident as being the "bad side"--it can be either side depending on where you're getting your news.

I'm always wearing one of my national guard shirts or some sort of "army/military" t-shirt when out in public and no one has complained tis far, though now, things seem to be evolving into a "freedom to wear" vs "freedom of speech" way of living.

And no, I don't drink beer, but I will have a coffee if invited to one of those submits. 😛

Your state is one of the very worst states in this country, and the illegal immigration policy it has adopted makes absolutely no sense.
