"The mods are picking on me and gave me a warning. I got in trouble for nothing (*cough*posting porn and inciting political hatred*cough*) yet BillyBob doesn't get in trouble for using a curse word in his post. The mods are out to get me. If they like you, you can get away with anything, but if they don't like you, they will ban you for anything... waaah."

What do you do with users like this? This is basically the kind of thing I had to deal with yesterday.:fearscream::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: I have to laugh at it when no one is looking because otherwise, dealing with oversized children would drive me crazy. lol XD

wow, I just look at the pass report logs and just let it go over my head and don't get it. Some members will go crazy and lie to get themselves where they want them to be.

inciting political hatred

How does one do that?
That one is simple. In today's political climate, it's quite a popular thing for trolls to do. Post something highly controversial that you don't even agree with yourself. Sit back and watch people tear each other apart. Typical troll move.

Hmm, how do you know they weren’t just making conversation? Any political discussion topic has the potential to get heated. What made it so controversial and how do you know they didn’t believe it themselves?

Conversation is two sided. When someone makes a one liner out of the blue that is off topic and designed to get reactions, or a controversial wall post that goes against the rules of the site, it's trolling. I won't go into details on that particular offense here though. Let's just say, it was a problem user who has a history of being disruptive.

Recently, we had another user that said that the native Americans got what was coming to them, afterall the white folk tried to negotiate with them. He was condoning internment camps and genocide against minorities in today's America. Ours is an anime/ganming forum. That kind of speech is harmful and has no place on our site. He was skirting around our rules for years and that was the last straw. He was the only actual member to get himself permabanned on our current site. (Sakuga City is new, but we had existed as anime-forums.com since 2002)

My post was a little satirical to be honest. 😉 It wasn't a lie about the user, but I was also kinda poking fun at the fact that users like this are just like children. You know when you tell a child to go their room and they start pointing out all of the things that they think their sibling got away with. You can get mad or you can just laugh about it. I choose to see the funny side. It helps when dealing with ridiculous things.

How do you know it’s designed to get reactions though? Sounds like someone posted a topic and because the conversation that followed didn’t go to your staff’s liking, they lashed out at the member who created the thread.

Is that a spoiled brat you are talking about? Or maybe one that is self-centered? I think that rant is cute and it can probably solicit reactions although some comments may be negative. But I wouldn't sanction that member and probably just tolerate the rants on a wait and see attitude.

I am a mediator so that situation is not something that I look foward to. I dunno how I would feel being accused of playing favourites.

That said, while not to me I've seen that kind of behaviour and I like that rather than taking it to heart you feel amused and laugh it off.

So the first proper ban of SC. Congrats on the milestone.:hilarious:

I doubt staff jumped the gun on this one given that info. Sounds like that one had been testing the gray zone for a while.

Haha thanks @Kaynil.

Nebulous, you weren't there and are jumping to your own conclusions. I don't know why you're so invested in why my staff would warn a user. Actually, our staff are often accused of being too lenient. We've been running the same community together collectively for 15 years. We're old bastards in some cases 😛. We're long past the idea of just warning people for no reason. You get to a point where you just understand the difference between trolling and not trolling. You also get to understand individual posters and their quirks. Some are just joking, while others are looking to anger the userbase. In such cases, you try to neutralise it before it turns into a riot. If that means deleting and warning the user like we did in this case, you do it. You are here because you run your own site, so I'm sure you understand when a user is being disruptive on purpose.

Well this topic is about unfair treatment and based on the information provided, I can see why the member you mentioned would feel that way.

In the rare instances I've had of a user claiming favoritism, I normally respond with a list that proves otherwise and stops them in their tracks. The best instance I saw however was a user complaining when I found a wallpaper for someone as if I did it out of favoritism, when it was simply a case of helping someone out because I knew where to find it. XD

No, no. Do you expect us to believe if you take longer it is simply because you don't know where to find the solution straight away? We won't have that lousy excuse fly, Moonface.
We timed the post stamps, and you took 10 minutes less with this user than other queries. Favoritism! You can't fool us!

In all seriousness, it can really come out of nowhere people think you are being selective when you are just trying to be there for everyone. :hilarious:

Life is unfair and while I have sympathy for genuine problems, I don't for imagined ones. If they don't like a site, they can always... Go somewhere else with people who actually care about their drama.
