He's wondering why people are adding "promotion forum" forums to off topic sites that have nothing to do with promotion.
For example, somebody owns a gaming forum, yet they have posting packages, forum reviews, and other type of promotion categories on their gaming forum.
@Jasonp: I also find it quite stupid. But like Gimgak said, it's an easy way to get members to join and post though certainly not the best way.
Ahhh, i get you. It is because people assume that by adding an advertising section they will get loads of members and stick around in the other sections. It doesn't work like that though.
Yeah, the only reason I have advertising boards is for hosting companies (I have a forum about web hosting) and I added a personal site advertising board as an extra, but its getting the most posts out of all the advertising boards -razz-. I'm in the need of more host owners on my forum otherwise my hosting forum will just have random adverts, not hosting adverts
Yes, people think they can get active members and posts from services like that on their board. Not always the case, and almost never the type of members you'd want anyway. =\
I agree, unless your advertising forum is only for related products. Like a gaming forum having a video game swap/sale section... it is kind of silly.
All you end up with is a single post advertising, or if you give it a "you have to have x posts to advertise"... you end up with a bunch of crudely put together posts in the general sections and then an advertisement.
