I quite like the design and color scheme of the chosen skin, although the plants/foliage on the fence doesn't really suit. You should also add social networking/bookmarking automatic buttons for the posts so people can retweet them, and yourself. It can get you some decent exposure and a good way to interact with other bloggers.

There is one ad and the footer of the blog; many blogs have ad filled pages, so it probably isn't a primary issue.
