It sucks that's not what anyone wants anymore. Any Terminator film they make is going to fail despite how good the story is. Dark Fate is slowly gaining a cult following. If you check the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, they're very high. In other words, Dark Fate was good....but no one gave it a chance when it hit theaters because of the opening scene with John Connor getting assassinated by Carl and having Dani Ramos replace him.
The story goes way deeper than anyone could think.
Dani Ramos is based on the female version of John Connor:
Jane Connor. They are both female alternate versions of John, but the same character despite race or nationality. In the movie aboard the plane when Sarah finds out that Dani is the leader of the Human Resistance, she realizes she is actually John's alternate self and that she is part of a
predestination paradox. A
predestination paradox insures that you can't change the future. Wiping out Skynet, automatically replaced by it's alternate self "Legion", where the paradox than automatically kills off John Connor, who is then replaced by his alternate female self, Dani Ramos.
