Japanese told to go to bed an hour early to cut carbon emissions
The Japanese government has launched a campaign encouraging people to go to bed and get up extra early in order to reduce household carbon dioxide emissions.
The Morning Challenge campaign, unveiled by the Environment Ministry, is based on the premise that swapping late night electricity for an extra hour of morning sunlight could significantly cut the nation's carbon footprint.
A typical family can reduce its carbon dioxide footprint by 85kg a year if everyone goes to bed and gets up one hour earlier, according to the campaign.
The amount of carbon dioxide emissions potentially saved from going to bed an hour early was the equivalent of 20 per cent of annual emissions from household lights, "Many Japanese people waste electric power at night time, for example by watching TV until very late," a ministry spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph.

Do you think this will work ?
Is it the right way to tackle Global Warming ?

If you want to "tackle global warming", then you have to do it on a "global" scale. You can't rely on one country to sleep earlier in order to cut greenhouse emissions.

It will only work if people actually do it and I reckon not many will because it's not done on a global scale. The "Earth Hour" campaign succeeds because it's done on a global scale. The sleeping campaign needs to be done globally to have a recognizable impact.

The idea that humanity can destroy the planet by doing extremely trivial things on the global scale is piggish self-importance on the part of environmentalists. God created this earth, and he made it well. It isn't going to die on us this easy.

Wow, its like "torture" for a better Earth. I say this is just cruel.

Yeah, but what he made well is starting to fall apart due to the humans he created 😳

This isn't right? telling people to go to bed earlier?
Human rights allow you to stay up untill you like.
This isn't right!

I don't use my lights. My mom told me I couldn't paint my room black as it would be too dark. So I took out all the lightbulbs.
I'M ON MY WAY!

But this is crazy. They can't do anything, they're wasting the time they could party think to help save the Earth with.

It's quite a good idea, however, I don't think just one country should do it, I think everyone should do it. It's not fair if just one country has to do it, is it? 😛

I don't see what's wrong in waking up a hour later , and how come it's "Cruel" , "Crazy" or "Against Humanity" , infact , I find it as a pretty good idea , blah , Frankly It sounds like Japanese people want another million doctors from Japan now 😛

Asian Dad "You doctor yet!?"
Asian Kid " But Dad , I'm just 12!"
xD , Enough fooling around , Waking up a hour earlier isn't cruel or insane

You have got to be kidding me. So, because god made the Earth, theres no way we can mess it up? That's like saying because something is well made, you can't break it.

Hate to say it but I agree with Cosmic. It's silly to think we humans can create any lasting damage. Sure, we can fuck the earth up, we can fuck it up real bad, but it doesn't matter. The earth is gonna be here long after we're gone, and even if it takes billions of years it will rebuilt itself as it always has. This is not to say we shouldn't care for the earth while we're on it, but thinking we have the power to destroy it is arrogant.

Humans have and will be here for no more than a blink of an eye, and will cause just as much damage.

How is that torture? Shooting you in the kneecaps until you tell me where a nuke is...that's torture.

It's a suggestion. It's not mandatory! How in hell is this a violation of your rights?

Trust Agent Manning on this one. He watches 24, and us 24 viewers know all about torture. For example, hand towels = slow and painful death.
