Public updates for Oracle Java SE 8 will remain available for individual, personal use through at least the end of 2020.

Public updates for Oracle Java SE 8 released after January 2019 will not be available for business, commercial or production use without a commercial license.

I had been shown this page after the recent Java update was installed earlier this morning, even though I barely make use of Java these days. Just like with AIM months ago, another piece of ancient technology is slowly dying out, to make way for more modern ones such as HTML5. That means that any site that still has a Java plug-in somewhere will no longer work especially when Java itself is known to be less secure and it's no wonder that Firefox is now disallowing it from being run. That said, I heard that Flash may go the same way also...

Oh well, you will be missed, Java. I will always remember that humble grey square on a webpage that you're best known for as long as I live. Cheerio.[/hr]

I thought Java was officially phased out 2 years ago. Guess it's got a few death-rattles left in it after all.
