jforum - Forum Software

It looks incredibly similar to phpBB2.

A quick look into the source code would confirm or deny this.

If it's copied then that's brave.

That's just what my impression was as well was that it could be a phpBB2 look-alike. Sorry, but going to that, especially since phpBB 3.x has been around for quite sometime, would be like going backwards instead of forwards.

Its phpBB2. No doubt about it.

Just googled it and it said 'JForum, the java clone of phpbb' lol

Java clone of phpBB. Love it!

Seriously, I am not a fan of this at all. I looked at the sample forum that was posted up, and it looks seriously disorganized and just a bunch of mumbo jumbo crap all over the place.

So, that's why a popular game site uses it Ashley?

If you're talking about that one message board I used to frequent, just an FYI, that site has since closed its doors. I was seriously beginning to lose interest in the place anyway, because posts were not being kept up to date, hardly any members on anymore, and I'm no longer a BSB fan to begin with. Besides, I would've left sooner anyway because that site was being hit by loads of spam bots, and I for one was getting tired of running around reporting posts, so I just basically said screw it and left. Now days most of , if not all, the forums I'm a member of use the latest version of phpBB3.

I declare this topic to be a debate on whether phpBB or JForum is better for the LULZ. (Uh yeah this is just a joke.)

Is that...a phpBB2 forum icon?

Well if they are using phpbb2, then they should call it jphpbb or something.

Jcopyphpbbbecauseicantthinkofanythingmyself :shake:

Security, Security, Security.

For that, and that reason alone, I won't consider it, seeing as phpBB is the last on the list of major forum softwares security-wise. 😛

OOohoooh XD I wonder what jforum 3 is going to look like, phpbb3???

Im going to copy MyBB and call it:

itsMyBB

Actually, you can do that.
The only catch is, you shouldn't remove MyBB copyright in "source code" and people using your software won't get support in mybb community.

Its how open source systems work.

And jForum isn't an exact clone. Its the Java (jsp) version of phpBB. So, it means, they didn't just copied stuffs.

Here is a comparison between PHP and JSP.
