Thought it'd be an appropriate day to post this...JFT96!

Everything that happened there is extremely sad. Hopefully the recent disclosures and apologies from the Prime Minister can bring some closure to the friends a family of those left behind.

To fully understand what happened at hilsborough, you have to have been around at the time, going to a football match in 1989 was a completely different experience to todays sanitised experience.

No amount of inquiries or apologies will bring back those Men, Women and kids, and it's very easy to apportion blame with hindsight.

Very true. When there has been a cover up, I feel that it is better for most people involved, when that cover up is exposed. I wasn't there and I don't pretend to understand how difficult it must have been for those that were. Hopefully what has come out can give them at least a little bit of peace.

Probably, but maybe it's a case of better late than never?

Are there any groups representing the victims? Have those groups made any statements over the last couple of days?

Not that I am aware of, I guess something will come up online if they do.

There is a group called Justice for the 96, made up of relatives of the victims.

The one thing they wont seem to accept though is, that despite the cover ups and the apportioning of blame, they wont accept that it was Liverpool fans who stormed the exit tunnel to pens 3 & 4, that caused the crush, they are trying to shift the whole blame onto the police for the deaths.

I think we need to be careful when discussing this topic, it is very sensitive to the people involved and those of us who were not involved can only imagine the pain and despair that people are going through who lost their loved ones in the disaster.

It is unfair to suggest that any individual fans were responsible for what happened. The quotes below from Wikipedia is worth reading;

The official inquiry into the disaster, the Taylor Report (1990), concluded that "the main reason for the disaster was the failure of police control."[4] The findings of the report resulted in the elimination of standing terraces at all major football stadiums in England, Wales and Scotland.

the Hillsborough Independent Panel, which in September 2012 concluded that no Liverpool fans were responsible for the deaths, and that attempts had been made by the authorities to conceal what had happened, including the amendment by police of 164 statements relating to the disaster.

Due to the sensitivity of the topic I feel that the subject of blame should not be discussed here. I rarely ever say that something shouldn't be discussed on FP, but when I do it is generally because the topic is a sensitive one which has the potential to cause pain and hurt to others.

May the deceased Rest in Peace and may their loved ones find, peace, meaning and lover in their lives.

The Liverpool fans are as culpable as the Police, it was Liverpool fans trying to get into already full pens that caused the crush.

Personally I think they both played a part, but the stadia should have been checked.

The stadium didn't have a valid safety permit, so the FA are to blame as well, to be honest it's real can of worms
