Mike Myers didn’t originally intend to play Dr.Evil himself, in fact, he originally envisioned Jim Carrey at the helm of the character. Carrey was interested, but it unfortunately interfered with the shooting of Liar Liar.
I wonder what Dr. Evil would have been like if Carrey did play him.
The Mask wasn't an evil character, you know that, right? Its a mix between evil and comedic. A reflection of "what could be" in his personality.
The Mask is supposed to be a romantic film, but mixes a little bit of everything into the film. Its easily [one of] my favorite film(s).
Anyway, his redemption arc for missing Dr. Evil was playing Dr. Robotnik. Usually his roles are "face" characters - the good guys. You don't normally see him play the "heel" - the bad guy.
I'm using wrestling jargon to help along the idea of his scripts. Its usually the good guy.
Unfortunately, Carrey is gonna bend to Hollywood in the next few years. Just watch him crash and burn in the coming years. He embarrassed himself by suing the person who ousted him as an epstein visitor. He should've just let it calm down, let himself be in the background.
He doesn't realize what that did to how he is perceived.
I expect Carrey to lose everything soon. One script will kill his entire career, which is why since day one, he has been careful with his acting roles. Its just, sometimes he has scheduling conflicts. And makes mistakes. For the most part small mistakes. I remember watching some of his films and yawned. But those are small mistakes. He hasn't made a big mistake where he is in the center of negative controversy.
I do like his robotnik role, I think that he understands Sonic, the franchise and played the role in a way I think he wanted to play an evil character. That is a lighting bolt moment for Carrey. I don't think he'll be able to re-do that canny evil character.
