Does anyone know of any jobs that will hire 15 year olds in the US? I've been looking for jobs now because I can get a work permit from my school. I just don't know a lot of places that will hire me off hand, and figured I would ask you guys. 🙂 Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :great:

Do you have any friends' relatives or relatives like uncle and aunts who work as a manager, or a owner of a company or store?

Asking people you know who hire people or are owners of businesses may be a good way of finding a job at 15.

Starbucks, Burger King, Subway, Safeway, BestBuy, stores at the mall, book stores, and Blockbuster might also hire 15 year olds.

I wish I had family here. lol I moved to Indiana from Michigan, so all my family is in Michigan. lol
But I'll check those out, thanks. 🙂

Nearly everywhere, I promise 🙂 If you're above 14, most places just turn an head.

Like a lot of the restaurants I've tried (Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, etc.) require me to be 16, so I didn't even send in an application. D:

Every state, county even town can have its own labor laws when it comes to minors so I cannot really tell you who would hire you and it be true where you live.

Why not try a paper route or do work for people in your neighborhood (rake their leaves, mow their laws, etc)

14 is the minimum age to work where I live. I did look that up. lol.
I never thought about a paper route. lol

Finding a job is incredibly tough and if you don't know people, you will have a hard time. Over the summer, I applied at many places, and the job I got was due to me knowing the owner/manager.

Just get your name out there, make references, earn a positive reputation and you will eventually find a job.

Good luck!

Volunteering at charities, and non-profit companies can lead to part-time, and even full-time work if the charity or non-profit also hires people, or they can be your reference on a resume, or refer you to a job.

You can ask your school career counselor, or guidance counselor if they know of companies which hire high school students.

Alrighty, thanks! 🙂 I'll talk to my counselor on Monday. 🙂

This is so true, and it was my biggest obstacle when looking for jobs in high school, I didn't have any connections that could get me a job.

It wasn't until after I graduated from high school, I applied at a local pizza place and they hired me, even though I didn't know them at all. I didn't even have to interview! So my best advice would be to try small restaurants or businesses. Big franchises (McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc.) are less likely to hire younger people with no experience unless they really need someone. So just stop by a small place and try to win over the people there 😉

Good luck!

I'm also 15 and will likely have to start job hunting as well. 🙁

Try going to small businesses like Felicia suggested, even if there's no "Hiring" sign. My dad owned a gas station and would hire the first person to walk through the door asking for a job. 😛 Good luck!

I'm not sure if this any help or not but my 15 year old daughter just got her first part time job as an Elf in Santa's grotto? I know it's only seasonal work but I should imagine there are plenty of places with a Santa around?.........and it's a really cool first job 😉

Considered retail? Maybe department stores, behind shop stacking or sales assistant?

I don't know what the last two are, but you probably won't get hired at the first two. At McDonald's in my state you can be hired at 15, but you can't operate any of the fryers, go into the walk in refrigerator or freezer, or operate any of the machinery (even the McFlurry machine you aren't supposed to use). For those reasons, you probably won't get hired until 16 if your state has similar laws to mine. Retail you probably have to be 17 or 18, as most of the places I looked into in retail said 17 or 18.

My advice is wait until you are 16 if you can't get anything relatively soon. Also knowing people helps. If your best friend's dad owns a business, you could probably get hired faster and earlier than normal people applying. Also, if you frequent stores and you ask if they are hiring, you probably have a better chance of getting the job. I have tons of friends that got jobs by regularly going to places and then getting offered a job by the owner.

Also, I know you can deliver papers in most states at 15.

Yeah, the labor laws are basically the same here. lol, I understand why we can't use the fryer & stuff. lol
I'm gonna go ride around town & stuff sometime this weekend & look for hiring signs & stuff & ask around at fast food places.
