Joining forums to get more members for yours

Do you think joining other forums & contributing helps guide traffic to your own forum? Where they see who you are & join?
I love posting on forums & had some members join my forum when they saw me on others. Some stayed, some left. Don't know if it was what I said per se, or just that they were joining a bunch of forums anyways lol
I think that’s where it’s pertinent to allow advertising. I was more strict at the beginning because I had so many join JUST to promote & they never came back. However, after doing Exchanges & Packages, I allow more advertising. Figure also forums are a dying breed & we need to stick together.

Not always unless you end up doing deals with each other by doing posting exchanges. You can or I have joined other forums and used their advertisement option that is there for me to use however they end up not in returns.

If you participate in exchanges and buy packages, you might be able to build a member base as well as content on your forum. I have been doing this for a while and it has really helped me.

This was the best marketing strategy in the early age of forums. However, this strategy has died off since the age of Social Media. So instead of marketing from forums, marketers use social media to market their forums. At least I DO.

Been doing this since 2000, and 2006 respectively.

A. You're allowed to link to your forum and you're not spamming
B. You contribute the best possible content on that forum to get noticed
C. You befriend people where they want to be around you more

I also think we forum owners would benefit better if we buy forum ads over any other ads. Why not advertise to people who like forums? People on social media don't want to leave social media.

I agree with this post for the most part, but I disagree about the Social Media part bolded. Not everyone is gonna rush to register to a forum from Social Media, but THERE are people who WILL join from a Social Media site. Though, that said, I subconsciously use it as a ranking signal.

Oh I won't deny that social can still bring you members. But I do think that people on a forum are more like to join an advertise forum than people on social media would. That's kind of my point. I have a page with over 10,000 followers, getting some of them over to my forum was easy but only some.

I have signed up on over 200 forums since joining FP. The owners of those forums who have signed up on mine and return to post can be counted on one hand.

I have used this method in the past where I have been active on other forums and had a link to my forum either in my signature if that is allowed or had it in my profile and some people have had a look and seen that I have a forum and come over. It doesn't always work and it depends on how active you are on forums and also the type of forum that you have as well but I have found it to be a good way to get eyes on your forum.

Does not always work, even if you have 40K posts on that forum and each posts have your URL link in it 😛 might be lucky to have one joining. most people do not even look at your sig

I think signature advertising has been really effective for my resource board by advertising my board in the signature of the official support board while contributing a significant amount. Since the forums are of similar nature, I think my advertisement lures members from the official support board at times.

My forums would be of little interest to people unless they used a certain service or owned a particular product so it's highly unlikely me joining other forums would be of any benefit all.
