I've noticed something that happens a lot in forums now in days. When new people promote their new site, people won't join. But when a staff members promote their new site, people join. I don't get it.

Well that's the benefit of being an active member on this forum or a staff on this forum.

Ya , if someone is a staff member people know that they will be having a lot of knowledge in this field , and also staff members are popular among general members .

Are you trying to say that when Forum Promotion staff members advertise their sites, people are more likely to join?

If that's what you're trying to say, then it's not entirely true. I know that if I started a new forum, nobody would be any more likely to join. Then again, though, I'm not really one of the better known staff members on here ("Who the heck is Snobothehobo?"). 😛

It's not so much the staff members, it's the respected members. The ones that are visible around FP, giving advice and helping in the support area. People are more likely to join sites run by people they know are good people.

I wouldn't join a forum advertised by a spammer, but I may join one advertised by a long-time member.

What do you mean?

What I don't get is why it takes a perfect forum for someone to join up and post.

I suppose e-rep could give you a boost in new memberships, but if you have a great forum that people actually want to join then you will have new memberships regardless.
