What are your thoughts on the version jumps Joomla does? It originally was 1.0, then it jumped to 1.5, then it went to 1.6 and now it's 1.7 and it will be 2.5 with in January.

Wouldn't you think they would have versions for the numbers in between? :shake:

I agree it is kind of confusing. They should just call it Joomla 2.0.

Maybe 2.5 sounds better since the extra .5 makes it sound more high tech and newer to some people.

Still. They should still do what normal software's do. What happened to say Joomla 1.2? 😵

"Developers have at times jumped (for example) from version 5.0 to 5.5 to indicate significant features have been added, but they are not enough to warrant incrementing the major version number. " - Wikipeadia

Hope this explains things 🙂

well... there's no major changes between J! 1.6 and J! 1.7... maybe trying to get some attraction?

Joomla has always been such a weird CMS. One of the reasons I like it.

Lol, I like the name as well since Joomla sounds better then Drupal, WordPress, and MODx which sound kind of generic.

I think the promotional/marketing staff might decided to add an extra .5 to make more people update to it since some people might think they better quickly update to the latest version, so their not missing out on new features, patches, etc.

I fear that some of the most interesting component developers get annoyed with all the new upgrades and one day they will no longer develop them.

Three that come to mind are JCE, Community Builder and Kunena. The three components I always have for client sites and my own sites.
