JoyFreak has had an update

I don't know if it's intentional but as an unregistered guest I'm seeing a lot of blank space at the top of every page. Are you running ads there?

Aside from that I like the 'News' area layout, I think the images help make the page look more polished, especially compared to the forum listing which in my view is a little unbalanced. The short forum list coupled with the long widget side bar has created a huge amount of blank space. In fact if I scroll to the bottom of the page over 90% of the page is blank space.

In general I do like the theme but I'd like to see less blank space and perhaps a little more imagery given the genre.

Hey,

Thank you for your feedback.

Those blank spaces you see at the very top is where the ads go. I’m guessing you have some sort of Adblocker in place?

Yes, you’re right. The forum list is short compared to the sidebar. I have an idea of what to put below the forum list but haven’t done it yet. When I do, I’ll update this thread 🙂

I do. I usually have it inactive but I'd left it switched on while I was checking something on one of my sites. To be honest I think most people run with them these days.

nice update you got going, do the members like it so far

It's aesthetically pleasing, but I find it a bit confusing from the standpoint of wanting to add to discussions.

I had to fumble around quite a bit from the homepage to find the actual forums. While that's probably not an issue for those who visit your site frequently, it is a potential barrier to gaining new users, which is important and quite possible since you have a community that is very focused on one topic.

You mean the forum list?

Yeah. I do see that it is a button (which was easier to spot on mobile for me), but it still seems a bit inconspicuous. It could just be a me problem. 😛

Excellent. Looks professional. I like it.

Are there more forums available for members, or is what guests see it? If there are no more forums for members, this is the most active board I've ever seen with so few forums. Simplicity can be good.

As for the design, it's pretty good, but as someone else mentioned I'm seeing extra space at the top and bottom of the site. Since there's so much empty space above and below the forums, maybe put some of the sidebar modules horizontally above or below them. Will make for less scrolling and less empty space.

If you click on the Forum tab it takes you to the node list, but that is literally all of the forums 🙂
