When your promotion forum is new, no one will really be there. Just like anyother new forum. Inturn it probably isn't getting a whole bunch of traffic either. So start out with services that help the users forum directly like packages and reviews.

Why would someone post a lot to put their link on a brand new site? Offer new services that help the other persons forum :great:

Good note. I'm building a forum like this but I've come up with a few unique services. I'm over seeing links in the first post and whatnot.

Good point, that. Now days you see promotion forums with all sorts of out-of-this-world services, and when really, when someone like myself joins up with a new promo forum, the first thing I want to know is how reliable the staff are. Small services like packages and reviews are a good way to put that reliablity to the test. Then, if members feel they can trust you enough, then you can come out with more or fancier services. Some promotion forums get off the ground right away, while others don't. All the same, they're just like any other genera of forum, like The Hat Tipper said. They probably take more time and patience than any other genera of forum out there as there are so many promotion forums out there to begin with, so you really got to work hard to make your forum stand out.

I'd study the ones that get off the ground vs the ones that don't and analyse for differences and things they have in common. Cold analysis gets a bad rap, but it can make a huge difference in turning your forum around for the better. It sure did for me.

Also, another thing that just came to my mind was that when you start a forum at all, don't have a gazillion and one sections to post in! I always get turned off when I look at a new forum and I see more sections than the board probably needs. What's worse than having more sections is having the same such sections with little to no posts in them at all. Always start small when opening a forum of any kind; have only a few sections to post in. Then, as your forum grows and gets more active members, and the demands for more sections start coming in, then you can see about adding more sections later on down the road. You don't want a forum where there's nothing to post in, but at the same time you don't want a forum with loads of confusing sections either.

There are SOO many promo forums coming out, it's a hard market to grab, so there definitely has to be a lot of groundwork, commitment, and dedication to your services, and your own promotion efforts.

Exactly. Promotion forums seem to be the one genera where it's hard to beat the competition these days. Not that I've ever been into owning a forum for competition, but still! So many sites offer pretty much the same services, so it seems like you won't truly know how good a site is unless it is unique.

What competition is there? They all shut down within a year or two at the most anyways. Minus here of course.

I mean competition with some of the ones that have been around longer. Like here, for instance. People create their own forums because they see FP as successful as it is in it's current state, then when they realize that FP wasn't an overnight success, and that their forum wouldn't be either, they get frusterated and give up.
