just a tip!

the .tpl is your portal index page.
you can edit it to add more blocks, and much more.

Yep.... you can download the template (tpl) and add new blocks, music, games and so on to it the upload it again.

After you download it open it in word-pad edit the html (you need to know html) then upload it again via portal editor.

You can do that with the Freeforums admin controls? Obviously I am new to this!

Mainly, if you really want to do this, you need to concentrate on learning HTML. If you really want to, go to W3 Schools.
Thats where I learned how to edit the portal.

Anyone know any easy way to install portall for phpbb3.0? I tried to do it once and got totally messed up with my forum.

I had to reinstall whole thing (fortunately I had a backup).

I depends which one... If you tried to install this one ( http://www.phpbb3portal.com/ ) then i think it is because one of the files were called something incorrect and there was a typo in it. I think it was the announcement.php file so if you rename it to what it says on the error message it will work.

There is no easy way at the moment to install it although soon there will be easymod for phpBB3 which will install mods for you although it can be crap sometimes (the phpBB2 one was kind of) and not all mods will work.

Oh, maybe that was a reason why it went wrong. Wish there was a normal installer like in windows programs so that dump like me don't need to touch code etc..

if anyone needs help with it, i can help

I did my whole portal page with all the additional stuff

I learnt HTML along the way, and now, its reasonably simple
