This site: http://www.worldchillout.forumotion.com which has been closed for months still gets 1,000's of hits a day. How the hell is this happening?

If so, I'd expect the bounce rate to be very high as that background is overwhelmingly distracting.

The only reason I can think of this for happening is because it's probably still getting bots on there... that's the only way I can think of.

Ugh, I actually have a headache from that background! Yikes.
