Hey.

I'm looking for memebrs for www.zarth.co.uk .

I have tried various methods, but would like to stay away from post exchanges etc. and get some active users. We are already offering cash and rewards for posting, so any ideas?

Thanks 🙂

Join up some forums with a similar theme to yours and make some friends there. (A good idea is to chat with them over MSN and other IMs). Then, link them to your site.

Also, stay in contact with them. Sometimes bugging them will keep them posting there. 😛

Thanks for the ideas 😀

Just gotta think of a forum similar to mine 😛

Whether or not your forum is relatively new, it always makes sense to join as many advertising sites as you can, become active there, and make sure your promote your forum as much as you can. Whether that would be in your signature, or while posting in threads. Either way, forums can take years to become active, so patience is the key.

PROMOTE!!! 😛 In my sig is a promotion forum. 🙂 Also, there are tons around.

I am promoting though 😛

I'll join your forum now, but I'm promoting on about 10 advert forums a day

Whoever said that promotion forums don't work, that's not true. In fact, when you've just created a new forum, promotion websites are the best place to go to. You won't get all of your members from them though, but once your forum starts to become active, you can start promotion through social networking sites, other forums, and through search engines.

Also, join Showdown Town!😀

Sign up with some fake accounts on your own forum, and have "conversations" with each other... that's what I'm doing right now on Let's Just Talk. And it's going good, plus it's helping me add to my forum's overall post count too! I might add more make believe members later and have conversations with them until I start getting real ones. I hear it's a pretty good promotion trick, and I already have had five guests on the forum! It's not honest, I know, but it's a start!

I'm surprised at the number of forum administrators doing this. Also, when your forum becomes active and starts getting real members, you can still post with the fake accounts, just less and less, until you make it seem like the 'member' quit.

Yeah, I have seen others doing this as well. Of course, if the administrator made it seem like the fake member was a valuable asset to the community, and all of a sudden that "person" stopped coming to the board, regular members may think, "what happened to so-and-so?" you know what I mean?

If possible, I suggest investing a small amount in advertising. It may seem like a bad idea at first, but trust me, it brings traffic. You can invest about 10 dollars at first just to try it out.

Yes, which is why you shouldn't make the 'fake member' become a well-respected member. Just use the account to bring the post count of your forum up, so it won't appear to be dead. After that, just pretend that the member decided to leave afterwards.

Thanks for that advice, I heard about this tactic and will consider it 🙂

I found this place from a member on my site. He showed me alot of promotion sites. I guess my question is, if these sites are for promoting websites, do any real people come here. Potential members that is? I wouldnt expect anyone here to promote their site to join my site. Make sense?

I know what you mean, everyone is here to advertise so not alot of people actually sign up

Try signing up to websites that talk about the same things that your forum does. For example, if your forum talks about video games, try advertising on gaming forums. That way, other members will most likely take an interest.
