Im so tired of people who I do post exchanges with that, when they join my forum, they advertise their site in their sigs and threads... its getting real annoying and makes me wanna pop somebody in the head with a sniper rifle... Im tired of them advertising, its clearly in my site's rules not to advertise, and they keep doing it... I have dealt with about 5 people in total this week breaking my rules and advertising their site to steal my members. I gave them warnings although I cant stand it, but it really effin gets on my nerve when someone does it in 4 threads and their signature like what JamesD31 did, and I banned him. sorry guys im so real angry about these people and I feel like venting, I hope you guys understand. I myself never advertise my site on other forums, because I know how I'd feel.

Before you agree to the exchange, tell them doing that isn't allowed. That might help.

They should know themselves as a forum owner not to, and I dont have to post in the thread because its in my site's rules... and its left to them to read it or not. Not my problem.

Just state in the terms of the deal/exchange that signature advertising isn't allowed. Most normal administrators should be able to comprehend that. Problem solved.

Its in my sites rules, and its up to them if they read it or not.

Well, they're obviously not reading the rules there then. The only other thing you can do is explicitly forbid in when negotiating the exchange.

People don't read the rules.

Besides, you're talking strictly about post exchanges with other administrators, right? If so, is it that hard to state in the exchange thread that signature advertising isn't allowed? It has always worked for me.

It's a simple post exchange.
Do you really expect every person you do an exchange with to go through and spend an extra five minutes on the exchange to read your forum's rules?

There's no need usually. Most forums have mainly the same basic rules.
When your forum has rules that aren't ordinary like signature advertising, let the person you are doing the exchange with know. That will help both parties of the exchange. You won't have to deal with the advertising, and then they can save an extra few minutes.

Yea makes since, but when they advertise in threads, they should know better.

You can't do much about that, besides express your unsatisfactory exchange to them.

Moved to a more correct forum.

I agree with Mr. Halloween, state that they can't advertise.

Just block links in signature and filter out www. or http://. Or if that doesn't work disable signatures for low post members etc.

Why wouldn't people advertise in their sig? It's their own personal space. They can do anything they like with it as long as it doesn't break the law.

I advertise my blog on all forums that I sign up for to do packages, assuming they allow the

Considering we all use forums here, you should know that people will advertise their forum. When people sign up on FP, advertising is why they are here 90% of the time. That's your fault.

I agree.

They sign up on FP for advertising, not my forum... when they signup for exhanges, its just exchanges not advertising...

They also use this as a chance to get word out of their forum. Seriously, just tell them they can't advertise when you offer to do an exchange or disallow http:// in signatures/posts.

So what?

I consider my blog to be a part of what makes my online persona me. Without letting me show you it, you're taking away my ability to express myself. It's no different from having a Pepsi logo in my sig. Sure, I like Pepsi, but "oh noes" I'm advertising.

Advertising in signatures is common on every forum. If you don't want people to do it then clearly state it in the exchange thread, I doubt posting it here would help at all (lol), and if you don't say they can't advertise in signatures..then why wouldn't they? A free backlink.
And like Voldemort said, some are like an internet persona. I wouldn't join a forum that restricts signatures so much.
