I am having a problem with seeing promotion forums (and other type of forums) open up their forums the first day, and start asking for donations the next time. I mean come on, how could you join a forum like that? Doesn't seem to you that they are just in it for the money? We all know how forums first start out. Ya they might of bought the domain and got hosting for free from a friend. I can guarantee that's how 90% of all forums start out. It just seems unfair to those who do donate to the admins (I dont know who would) for nothing. I mean what could the money possibly be used for?

I understand if your forum is getting bigger and is unstable in its current environment but to start out and start to ask for donations is just a forum I dont want to be at.

You may ask why I'm going overboard with this, I'm not. Im just simply saying that it really tells the guest what the forum is about. As for my forum, I dont plan on asking for donations. I dont have it in the plans for the near future.

I'd have to say, I agree. I would work on building up my forum and getting activity rolling before accepting donations from ANYONE. If I were to go on a site only to find ten million announcements practically begging for donations, I'd leave, because that's how I would know that the administrator or administrators are only in this kind of thing for the money. It's obviously not about the community at all from their stand point.

I have never directly asked for donations, and I never will unless things really get tight. I just dished out around $100 for our VPS, which I may need to upgrade at a later date. It's worth it to me though, the web is my hobby. Sports players dish out thousands of dollars yearly (my brother plays so I know). My web hobby is actually much cheaper, AND it teaches me skills I may require when pursuing a web-based career 🙂

Forums who beg for donations is one of my pet-peeves too. I don't think ANY forum should even have a donation option unless they actually pay a decent amount to run it. Now just the cheapest domain provider they can find but actually paying for their hosting. Begging for donations is even worse though in my eyes. I doubt very many people even donate to random forums though.

There arent any Promotion Forums that "beg" or "ask" for money like you are saying, they just have this feature as a free will type donations, meaning they are not asking for money just giving the users OPTIONS if they want to donate, they are not obliged to donate. Name a forum that directly asks their members for money?

Ok, lets get this straight. First I didn't say that forums beg for donations (although some do) but having the option to donate is a complete no-no. That is a complete turn off to a few forum.

And you posted in this topic trying to defend your new forum cause you "indirectly" ask for donations. I do understand your point but why take money from them now, and in the future when you really need it?

i've spent $400 dollars on my website. i think if i want ads or to make a post about donations i'm ok to do that

Some forums (Like ours) wanted to install all mods first so we had no problems later on :great:

ACE not every forum "takes money from people" although if people want to support the site they can. If you've got a problem with this then i must ask why did you support FP? Why are you even on the internet for that matter, every site you go to one way or another either asks for donations, has something to sell, or a way to earn money. Wikipedia, Google, Yahoo, Forum Promotion you name it, every single site will have the option.

Besides you made this topic on my forum, then left, then you came back to check for a reply and made sure you had every chance to advertise your community make a couple of posts then run along, it's actually members such as yourself who only do things that help themselves that make webmaster's do it. So think about that mate.

Also you can't say

because that's how you started your forum, not everyone is as un dedicated as you were when you started your forum 😉. If that isn't true then why would you say that?

Pretty pointless thread 😉.
