what do you think when people come one to your site just to advertise or promote there site..

I have an advertisement section on my forum and they make one post out side of it and advertise 3 of there sites and haven't came back. Now this really upsets me

Isn't that what you're asking for when you have an advertisement section and you only promote to promotional websites?

I hate it when people do that, especially on two of my forums cause I want people to join cause they want to talk about the game that it's about. Not join to advertise.
Whenever I join a forum to advertise, I join up and post everywhere. This way I help the person out.

hahaha wow that person has a hot temper asked em to post some more other places and i told them i moved there advertisement post to my private section... the person went off on me

A simple solution would be to set a minimum amount of posts before advertising of simply deleting all the advert threads if they never return.

On my forum, members have to make 10 posts before they can advertise their websites. And, once they join and make the required amount of posts, then advertise, they see my forum's content and want to post to get iCoins ( points you get when you post on my forum ) , then request something from my forum's shop ( because they want it to improve their websites ) . They also see great services they like to request, and once someone advertises, a lot of my members views their topic and comment on the site advertised. You can check the topics on my forum to confirm this if you'd like. PS. & the members that advertised visits back to share their website's updates, etc...

:great:

Even though it's a lot that's why I think on non-promotion centralized boards, it's good to have a medium to higher post count before they can promote their site so this way at least they've at least contributed in some way. I've always used 50 as a baseline because it takes at least some effort, especially on a new, a just starting to grow forum to get 50 posts. That number can always be changed from time to time to suit the admin, the traffic, or outside wishes...

With a minimum post requirement they will just post rubbish to get to that number. Such a section is not needed and just promotes spam. Furthermore, no one will even care unless you only promote to administrators, which is a very, very, very bad idea.

I think, "Wow, I hope that person has good luck with his/her forum!" 😀

This may surprise you guys, but I like people.

If they post rubbish, then I'll delete their rubbish posts and lock their advertising topic while removing the links, 😉

End of story.

Wow, indeed.

How is it better to have to clean up spam than just to not have the requirement?

Well, it depends on the forum, really. There are some forums that should promote other forums/websites, and that's fine. However, a genre-specific forum (like something for Donkey Kong, a sports team or politics as examples) shouldn't have it. It's kind of unrealistic that the regular community actually allows advertising like this.

I'm not saying that any is better or worst. It really depends on the forum's niche. If a member wants to spam, then they'll spam. There is no way to avoid what a human spammer thinks.

I want my forum members to share their work ( websites they designed ) and to get a few visitors to their sites. ( although my forum isn't an advertising community )

That's why I have a requirement in-place so that members post before advertising. And, the people that only join to advertise have hard times posting because often, they don't even know what to post, therefore they leave and my active members say, 🙂

I agree with Cosmic here. When you add a promotion section and promote it on a promotion forum like here then you are basically asking for people to promote and leave. Especially if you have no restrictions in place. If you have restrictions in place then you can remove the adverts by these users but if you have no restrictions in place then you need to accept it and you can't then delete all the one post wonders as they posted following the guidelines... unless you want to give users a reason to complain and cause trouble.

That's very obvious. I didn't join this forum to get new members, but to make back links to my forum while raising the amount of visitors reading my forum's content. I mainly depend on search engines to get members on my forum.
:cheer:

I have a Promotion Junction forum on my site and you need 10 posts to be able to create a new thread or even reply to a thread in it. It's purpose is more for members to promote themselves and their own things but a visitor could join, make 10 posts, and post up their ad I don't have a problem with that, it's why the section is there for people.
