Keep pets calm?

What things do you do to keep a pet calm? How about if you're pet sitting, what are some of your methods?

We're currently pet sitting our daughter's dog and guinea pig and the pig love is here but the dog is high anxiety because she's a rescue. She hates abandonment. She's a good dog though! I try to put on tv or music for her and it takes a while before she gets comfortable after my daughter leave the house for work.

They have a pretty good affective rating on helping keep pets calm.

I have tried just about everything with my Shit-zu she hates louds noises so living in Florida with all the thunderstorms is rough. The thunder shirt didn't help at all, then we tried melatonin treats that didn't work. Right now we are giving her hemp treats as soon as we hear thunder and seems to work a little.

I like Cesar Millan's teachings for dogs. Gist, don't make a big deal out of it & it won't be. For the most part lol Make sure the dog is keeping THEIR routine, including feeding, walks, cuddles. Those have helped us.
