Keeping a phone # when changing from a plan to a non-plan ph

I'm currently in a contract with ATT, but I'd like to transfer over to a non-contract phone.

Is there a way I can convert over from the ATT (plan) phone over to a new (non-contract / pay as you go) phone and keep my current number (port it over)?

I'm pretty sure there is. You would just need to contact ATT and ask.

We ported our home phone to a cell phone, so it is possible.
