So yeah, that whole Davis thing somewhat came to an end today as she was jailed on civil contempt for not doing what the Supreme Court as well as other courts told her to do. 😛

Here's the news story: http://www.kentucky.com/2015/09/04/4019 ... .html?rh=1

Just goes to show that mixing Church and State really is punishable. If this wasn't a government position she was in then this would be a different kind of case, but she works for the government, your religion doesn't count. Hence the whole point of separation of church and state, so this stuff doesn't happen all the time.

So what are your thoughts on this? 😱

She was hired to do a job. She was also hired to do marriage licenses according to the law. If she didn't want to do it. Than she should have quit rather than sit and protest and refuse people illegally due to her beliefs. Her job obviously wasn't about her beliefs.

Agreed, it was pretty silly that she would not just simply quit, if she had resigned she would not be rotting in jail and she would not have to many hatred. 😛

There's already a topic in the debate section.

Like I posted in there, there is a separation of church and state. Therefore, do what you're supposed to do and issue marriage licenses.

Sending her to jail seems to be the correct decision here. The supreme court made a ruling, and a local judge was enforcing it. An elected/appointed official was refusing to do her job, and can't be fired because he's appointed, so she was temporarily jailed for contempt of course. The fact is that clerks don't get to decide law. That's why we have courts and legislatures. She should have resigned instead. 😛

Justice. She wasn't doing her PUBLIC job. You don't use your religion to interpret the work you will do. That's nothing better than a Christian version of Sharia law.

I do think if she didn't want to do what she was hired to do, she should have quit or been fired. I think sending her to jail was a little over the top.

I have to disagree. If she was not sent to jail she would have been at her job doing what she was doing, and adding fines to her really would have have mattered considering the paycheck she gets. Jailing her took her out of her job for a while, since the state themselves wouldn't.
