In the wake of the tragedy at Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky's Republican governor and legislature say they won't consider gun any control proposals. Rather, a measure allowing teachers or staff to carry guns on campus has gained traction.

Republican state Sen. Steve West admits his bill isn't going to stop all school shootings, but he hopes it'll help.

"It increases that kid's chances of surviving. And if there is someone there with a weapon, they will be able to take down the assailant, or at least calm the situation," West said.

Under Senate Bill 103, public school boards and private schools would be able to tap teachers or staff to serve as "school marshals," who would be allowed to carry a gun on campus if they have a concealed carry permit.

The article later goes on to say:

Several other states are considering proposals that would allow teachers to have access to guns in schools, including Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania and South Dakota and South Carolina.

According to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, eight states currently have laws that either allow concealed carry of firearms at K–12 schools or have no laws prohibiting them.

What do you all think about these measures that different states are doing to try different ways to lessen potential mass school shootings?

They need to remove them all, ban weapons and ban them to not able to use them ever again. But no. Rather then removing and banning them they rather add more darn weapons.

So going to hear that if there is another shooting how would this turns out?

What difference is it going to make? By the time the staff or anyone reacts, children will still have been shot and many would have died.

This is just the wrong way to do it. It only allows more guns into the school, where it may be easier to obtain by the students, or worse, some of the teachers themselves who have problems with the school can easily resort to violence and the guard would just let them enter the school with guns since this proposal allows them to.

It seems that I don't understand this discussion at all or maybe my mind just wouldn't accept that news item. Allowing guns in schools will create more nightmare for parents. When a student brings a gun, it is for something violent. And allowing guns in schools means violence is being allowed. What we need is a total ban on guns in schools and a tighter security measure.

Also who ever gets the gun! will they able to use it and rather get others killed in the line of fire.

If there was gun shots, I will run or at least hind then I will get so confessed and messed up when I start hearing the secound gun going off from the school gun.

I don't think we need more guns in schools. But that doesn't mean I'm against guns, only that security should only have them - and there should be way more security. I don't like it, but it's just the way it is.

Anyway, the problem is the entry, not inside. If the entry is blocked by security, it simply won't happen.

I think guns should be banned from schools
and the rules to own a gun should be harder
Glad I live in Scotland as this sort of thing does now happened

Well, even in my area (in the US), two local schools are protesting, students demanding at least metal detectors. I think they should at least do that.
